Gemtech SFN-57 Suppressor.

Post by tps3443 » 22 Dec 2017, 21:06

Could anyone tell me if the Gemtech sfn57 is worth getting over other 5.7 rated options? Is it .22LR quiet with subsonic running the can wet?

I’d like to hear first hand experience if available.

It’s tough to define noise reduction in videos. The limited ones available on a GM SFN57 silencer.

Is this all silly? Or should I just suppress a supersonic load?

I used to own one, I put my review of it & my current one in Forum Input for Suppressors thread.

Short version - even with subsonic loads, I still wanted hearing protection when using the Gemtech. Sounded like a loud paintball gun. Also, the one I had couldn't be disassembled & so I would not recommend running the can wet. As I understood it, the burnt powder & water combo can turn acidic and cause damage.
I currently run an Elite Iron Echo for the 5.7. (Which they've apparently discontinued?) Using regular or subsonic ammo, it is quieter than my Gemtech was. It can also be disassembled for cleaning so you don't have to worry about turning acidic if/when you run it wet (unless you don't clean it).

You can suppress a supersonic load but it only mitigates the muzzle blast & does nothing for the "crack" of the bullet (supersonic bullet = mini sonic boom). Subsonic loads are quieter

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

I’ve actually purchased a “LOT” that some body was selling of FN SB193, So I’ve got (400) rounds of subsonic.

But I’m wanting a suppressor that is the quietest possible.

I run a Gemtech M4-96D on my PS90 SBR. I don't have any subsonic rounds, so it's not spooky quiet, but it's actually pretty nice. I wouldn't want to shoot it without ears but it does a great job of minimizing the "boom" part.
