recommended ammo for pocket pistol?

Post by Reverend Herc » 04 Dec 2009, 18:40

Just picked up a Kahr pm40. I know that someone out there probably has one or something similar. What kinda ammo does everyone recommend. I grabbed some Hydrashok-135grain and some Winchester Ranger 180 grain ammo... But I am tied between the two.... any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks Reverend Herc.

I have a Kahr PM9 and it is really tight. You need to
buy some cheaper ammo and be prepared to fire a
few hundred rounds to "loosen" it up.
IMHO

I bought some federal ammo from walmart to break it in... I am actually going to the range in a couple of hours so I will let every one know how it went...

I use the Winchester WB 230gr JHP in my .45. They are pretty much the same as the Rangers I think. I chronographed them at and avg velocity of 850 FPS out of my FNP. I think that they will do the job and at $28 per 50 from Wal-Mart, I could afford to stock up!

The Hornady Critical Defense is getting good reviews especially in pocket pistols.

I run either hydros or golden saber. Critical Defense rounds are getting GREAT reviews but also hard to find because of that.

I like the proven Hydra-Shoks. I carry those in .45 .38 Spcl, and .380. If I had a .40, I'd use Hydra-Shoks in that too. They are top of the chart for one shot stops.

I've been carrying Federal HST in .40/165 gr. and .45/230 gr.

HST, Hydra-Shok, Golden Sabres, Hornady CD, are all good choices. Run 100 to 200 rounds of whatever you choose through your Kahr and make sure they are 100% reliable feeding and ejecting before making a final decision.

I think ammo is like tennis shoes. Everyone has their favorites!
I hear people swear by corbon but for some reason my 1911's
won't eat them. So I do not carry them in anything I own.

I carry my ninja blade for one shot stops.

When you cut the head off in one swing, they tend to stop.
