Little Dandy rotor for True Blue?

Post by claybrdr » 18 Dec 2011, 13:43

Anyone used a Little Dandy powder measure to get 5.2 gr, 5.6 gr and 6.0 gr of True Blue? If so, what rotors do you use? I use that load for different bullets.

All powder dispensers of the rotary or slide type do not measure by weight, but volume, the charge weight you get is volume x the bulk density of the powder being used. If the powder is not listed on the RCBS chart, pick one that has the exact same bulk density, or as close as possible as the unlisted powder, you should be very close on charge weight. In this case AA#5 is exactly the same in bulk density as TB, so the rotors for AA#5 in charge weight you desire should get you close.

I get 6.0g for true blue from a #6 rotor, 6.5g for a #7, and 7.5g for a #8.

Your mileage may vary, batteries not included.

Yes, this is a necro post, but this was the only thread I found for a search of little dandy that dealt with the Little Dandy. While my Uniflow did "ok" for the powder charge, was wondering if anyone else has more to add to this, I'm trying to drop Blue Dot around 4.5 grains, perhaps even some Longshot or AA#5 at a later date, and don't want to re-invent the wheel if it has already been done.

I know this is a LONG dead post but, MY #6 rotor will throw a charge of True Blue between 5.5 and 5.7 grains. YMMV.

Oh, I forgot to mention I’m using the SMALL steel RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure Drop Tube (.17-.20 Cal) in my Little Dandy

Yeah but .2 grains can take a sweet light shooting 45k load to a 60k primer popping load.
