Cleaner/Lubricant for Five Seven??

What do most of you gentlemen use to clean and then lubricate your Five Seven?

The manual warns against anything this Hydrocarbons, Ammonia or Trichlorethylene but does not recommend anything.

I did hear that the FN factory uses Ballistol...don't know if its true.

Does anyone use Breakfree CLP? I know Hopps #9 has ammonia in it.

Also what are the lube points....manual doesn't really specify.

I use Hopp's solvent and oil and I have never had a single issue. The Lubrication points I lube is the chamber, the sliderails, hammer, disconnect etc.

Ballistol is recommended now since Browning has taken over CS and the Elmer Fudds there are in love with the stuff.

I pull mine apart and hit the lower with a blast of compressed air, and you could never tell it is not brand new after 5,000 rounds. I pull the barrel out and with a q-tip and carb cleaner, make sure there is no lacquer in the chamber. Run a brush through the barrel with whatever cleaner is laying around. (Borescrubber, Hoppes, CLP) Check to make sure the firing pin channel is clear, wipe it down with a rag that got oily cleaning my other guns and put it back together.

I wouldn't overthink the oil/cleaner issue too much. This gun is way too easy.

Being brand new to pistols of this type and only familiar with 1911's, does anyone have a schematic to show where the firing pin channel is located?

Remove you slide, turn the slide up side down, the ens without the barrel in it you will see a grove in the middle with a spring in it. This is the channel.

Is the firing pin channel an area where you should not use any lube? I have read that it should be kept dry of oil to prevent dirt and grime from collecting in it.

Does this sound correct?

Also...can dry firing the gun do any harm?

Dry firing will not hurt, in fact you should dry fire as part of your cleaning procedure.


You NEED lube there just don't slather it on like a Cosmolined comblock nagant.

I use Hoppes solvent and oil, and carb cleaner, in the FsN, Frog Lube on the XDs, and have been tossing around trying some different greases on the Sig instead of Hoppes. The 1911 gets spit and RemOil.

I use FrogLube. One of my in laws is a retired sniper. He was visiting and I showed him my bench. I bragged that I used only FrogLube and we got into a discussion. Of course he had strong opinions and the experience to back them up. He left with a supply of FrogLube and a DVD that I assembled from the internet.

For Christmas, he gave me a new large bottle of FrogLube and a thank you!

I'm ex British Military and a sailor to boot. I checked down at San Diego with a couple of SOG guys, and it seems they might well use FrogLube. I put it on my P7m8 and all was great, I was worried about salt air and all that. I didn't fire it for a month or two and when I did I had a malfunction , the firing pin was waxed up. I cleaned all the Froglube out and all was well again. So I concluded its great stuff if you don't leave it on to long. Oh, it totally protected the pistol against any kind of corrosion.

Yep. In my two years now using Frog Lube, it will gum up if you let it sit, but it works great as long as it's relatively fresh.

Has anyone tried FIREclean? It seems to be getting very good reviews from a lot of relatively trustworthy sources, but I have no idea if it would be effective for the FiveSeven.

Yeah.. it works.

I use Froglube for my straightwall cartridge pistols.

the FsN likes thinner lubricants, just like the bottle-neck cartridge'd AR.

Honestly, a lot of things overlap and work for the FsN. It isn't "this or that".

Mobil 1 0W-40 Fully Synthetic

On my AR-15's it's the only oil I've used that with the rifle sitting in the safe for MONTHS the bolt carrier is still WET.
