Kel-Tec PMR-30

Post by Buffman » 28 Jul 2014, 19:59

So far my opinions are high. I can tell the old school .22magnum I'm shooting from my dad are a lot more potent then the newer stuff I've been shooting.

I did one with Critical Defense, was not impressive. I may retest with these since they expand.

I love this pistol and have about 500 rounds through mine since getting it in January. It is what I used to gain my wife's confidence moving from 22LR to 22WMR to 5.7x28mm. Now she smiles a lot when shooting, and laughs because she can out shoot me with the FsN and PMR30!!! Really fun pistol!!!

Glad your PMR-30 experience was better than mine. I can barely make it through a magazine without some sort of failure.

It started right out of the box - using only KT's recommended ammo of course. Keyholes, FTFs, etc. galore. I called KT and they sent a new barrel. And they also said "oops, don't use the ammo we recommended - use xyz instead." I did.

The barrel swap and/or change in ammo stopped they key holes, but the failures continued. I eneded up sending it back to KT TWO times for repair. Same problems.

I get all sorts of comments on my videos by people claiming I didn't load the mags properly. Before shooting I read the manual and followed the instructions. I even found a video showing how to load it and did exactly the same thing. Failures galore.

I soooo wanted this gun to work. It's the only one I own that pretty much just sits in my safe now. It should be a really fun shooter, but failures suck all the joy out of this thing!

By the way, there is one thing I did like about it. My trigger pull is substantially lighter than yours. It's pretty consistent at 3.2lbs and little takeup.

I remember the issues you had with yours. Have you thought about sending it in again, and requesting a replacement? I know they've made changes to them and was why they upped the MSRP on them?

Honestly no. I haven't even thought about that piece of <profanity> for a very long time... until you posted this video. I may just do that. :)

a friend of mine got one and he loves it, no issues. I on the other hand went out and bough a AMT automag II.... mainly because I can and it looks neat as hell :)
