Is your weapon collection complete?
I know many on here have limitless knowledge about various weapons and probably have a limitless wishlist. But my focus is more narrow and today I feel like I have just about everything I want.
FsN, PS90
Classic AK, tactical-looking Arsenal AK, Vepr 308 (with a nice pile of custom 20rd mags)
Really nice M44 Mosin Nagant
Ruger 10/22 takedown
9mm, 10mm, 7.62x25mm Tokarev handguns
3 Ar's (FDE, OD, and black) (PSA, Colt, Sig)
Savage 110 BA Lapua
Mossberg pistol shottie with that spooky-looking breaching muzzle.
DAMMIT, upon writing this I just realized another gun I MUST have one day.... the VEPR 12 Gauge..
Okay, I'm back to feeling unsatisfied..

Re: Is your weapon collection complete?
I've got a nice little collection. I told my old lady I was done adding to my collection but...
I've decided That I need a keltec KSG, a cheytac, PS90 and an AR10. After that I should be done.
The chey is more of a wish list item since I can't justify the price tag without buying the old lady a new car at the same time.

Highly reliable, but for some reason I just have no desire to own them. My dad has a bunch of wheel guns. I always tell him to trade them in for something "cooler". I will say this, if you want a S&W 500, there is only one type of gun that can handle that round. I think if I were to buy a wheel gun, it would be for a S&W 500.

Oops, forgot to include my Yugo M57 Tokarev.
Re: Is your weapon collection complete?
Yes, reliable. And also equally important, easy to work on. And finally, won't fail to fire like many semi-automatics when pressed against something.ShockedNKansas wrote: Highly reliable, but for some reason I just have no desire to own them. S&W 500? You'd be better off investing elsewhere. A monster truck is fun, but maybe once around town and here and there on the trails. But not an every day driver, date vehicle, market runner, etc. The S&W 500 is beyond overkill, and many will say it's no fun beyond a few rounds. Mainly the decibels, but also the recoil. And in the dark you may go blind.
The .454casull is much better round than the 500.
Here? The .41magnum is the king of the wheel guns.

If you notice by my past purchases, practicality is not a prerequisite for me buying a firearm. I am kind of weird. I prefer to buy things that are unusual. The kind of guy that would choose a FiveseveN as his carry piece is not a practical man. lol
I would buy a 500 because it is unusual, one of the biggest, baddest, etc. Your 41 mag is pretty cool because it is unusual (to me).

You have a point, a conspiracy-laden point, but one that I did take into consideration before I posted. If the black helicopter man wants to swoop in and take my guns, he is sure welcome to try.

There are several firearms out now that shoot 500SW. All of them can handle the round.ShockedNKansas wrote:Highly reliable, but for some reason I just have no desire to own them. But I carry a 454 Alaskan for bear defense. It is small enough to care without issue and powerful enough to stop a large bruin charge. And though painful after twenty rounds or so, it is very shootable, particularly if you plink with 45LC.

One odd question: Do you think the development of the specific .454 and .460 caliber pistol round was influenced by the two american car manufacturer's big block engine displacements? You know, the 460 Ford and 454 Chevy. It seems hard to imagine that the designers choosing that exact caliber would coincidentally match the top "big blocks" of Ford and Chevy.

The .41magnum cartridge is an odd-ball, much like the 5.7x28mm cartridge. A real sleeper. Light loads like a .357 and heavy loads like a .44magnum all within the .41magnum's grasp. Many black bear guides (for hunting) carry firearms chambered in the .41magnum cartridge. Often described as .44magnum ballistics with .357 handling (recoil).ShockedNKansas wrote:If you notice by my past purchases, practicality is not a prerequisite for me buying a firearm. I've heard that 10mm ammo loaded to its potential is very similar to .41 mag.fd57 wrote: The .41magnum cartridge is an odd-ball, much like the 5.7x28mm cartridge. A real sleeper. Close but not quite. Close to run of mill 41, but 41 has much more potential. I love the 10mm though.ShockedNKansas wrote:I've heard that 10mm ammo loaded to its potential is very similar to .41 mag.fd57 wrote: The .41magnum cartridge is an odd-ball, much like the 5.7x28mm cartridge. I would say a 10mm gets as close to 41 Mag as a 280 Ackley gets to 7mm Rem Mag. Pretty darn close, but the 7 Mag loaded heavy can out muscle it.

So that is said in jest because that is a common source of discussion - 10mm and .41magnum. They are similar in as much as a 1971 LT-1 engine is very similar to a 1971 Boss 351 engine. IE, they're both engines, and similar in size, but ultimately the Boss 351 punches the LT-1 back into dolly land.
Re: Is your weapon collection complete?
Speak for yourself. I shoot a hundred rounds through one (or more) of my 500's every time I go shooting and love it. I don't shoot the Handi-Rifle (not pictured) without a shoulder pad, though. I did that once...uh...yeah...just once :facepalm:fd57 wrote: S&W 500? You'd be better off investing elsewhere. A monster truck is fun, but maybe once around town and here and there on the trails. That ES is not fun to shoot. I speak from experience. The long bbls are fine. Still worthless as a backcountry carry gun for me. Way too big.
I will say the BC PC gun you have does shoot very well. Great HG hunter.

Re: Is your weapon collection complete?
I'll be honest with you, besides a weapon being somewhat unusual, one of my other big motivations in acquiring a piece, is when the government hints that I shouldn't own it. That's what really got me into collecting guns several years ago; my liberty feeling threatened.
If you look at my collection, just about every gun in it is kind of a big F. U. to the gun grabbing politicians.
VEPR .308 with 16in barrel and many 20rd mags...
Many AK's and AR's.
5.7 anything
Savage 110BA "sniper rifle" in .338LM
Tokarev "the other armor penetrating pistol"
pistol-grip shotgun - I actually bought this at the time rumors were circling around them being banned.
I think investing in weapons that have a higher likelihood of receiving legislative attention also offer more of a potential ROI if you decide to sell them in the future.
If you haven't added a "sniper rifle" chambered in scary calibers (.338, .408, 50bmg) to your collection, I would advise doing so sooner rather than later because I feel those platforms specifically are the single hardest thing to justify for self-defense than any other weapon. A couple Bloomberg commercials about their effective ranges and lethality would make a great head-liner to getting more weapons banned. A citizen can walk into a gun store and buy a .50BMG semi-auto and take it home (if he can carry it). That weapon has only one purpose in the hands of a civilian besides target practice at one of the few 1000yd ranges in the country - defense against tyranny. God forbid a crazy ever gets a hold of one of those and sits on a building somewhere. If it happens, the guns are gone. The NRA wasn't very convincing to the general public when they argued the necessity of 30 round mags to congress for home defense. Can you imagine them arguing the right for a citizen to own a .338 or .50 cal military-spec sniper rifle after some nut kills people with one?
I'm kind of rambling on here but I feel pretty strongly that rifles of this nature are not going to be available to the public for long. The writing is clearly on the wall. I am very surprised they haven't received more publicity.

I actually agree with you. Here are my 2 biggest FU guns, first the rifle:
And now for the handgun:
When I carry this one around in my snake-skin leather holster, it just feels like the biggest FU ever!

If you are investing just because you think the feds are going to ban something...you are going to have a bad time. Unless of course you can already afford them. Then you will have a good time, it just won't be a good investment.
After the great failure this year, the gun grabbers really don't have a pot to piss in as far as getting any weapons banned. Mandatory background checks on private sales didn't even get through on procedure vote.
I'm not say to stop donating to politically viable civil rights groups like NRA or NAGR, or local groups. Keep that up, as they do show the f--ktards in DC how their bread is buttered. I'm just saying that I have to laugh at the many people right now trying to offload the AR or AK they put on their credit card and whining how they can't get what they paid for it. Particularly if they bought it during the scare.
Speculating in any sector is best left to the professionals.

I don't know. The new marsh design for Sitka sure looks tactical and snake like. Plus isn't that what snakes' skins are for, camoflauge?

I believe that guns are tools and you should have what you NEED. Self protection is one thing, subsistence hunting is another. Make sure you have the right tool for the job. If money is no object, buy what you want.
As far as posting your guns on the internet just to show them off equates to penis envy. I own no guns.

While gun collecting would not be considered a traditional investment, I think it is a very smart hobby to have. The value of a gun collection oftentimes increases over the years, or at worst, stays the same.flyingirish04 wrote:If you are investing just because you think the feds are going to ban something...you are going to have a bad time. Whether or not the government is able to ban certain types of weapons in the future remains to be seen, but my money is on the fact that they will eventually start banning weapons. It's just the normal progression of a socialist government.
I'm not going to go into detail regarding what my "gun investing" returned during this last panic, but let me say this; my collection over the last 7 months has grown by several multiples thanks to Obama and his buddies and all those who arrived late to the party.
Oh, and one more thing... SnK NEVER pays more than FMV on anything.

How do you know what you NEED until you've identified the threat? Traditional zombies, hybrid zombies, zombie bears, liberal zombies... I say just keep buying guns until you are satisfied and make exceptions for the really good deals that come along.
We are moving into another great period to be buying guns. Lots of excess inventory.
