What's the scoop on Barnes Banded Solids?

Post by Vortec MAX » 20 Feb 2013, 19:33

I noticed that nobody is selling the Barnes Banded Solids in .224" 45 grain anymore. I know that Elite was using them in their top secret round that shall not be named. I also know they had some fun and enlightening conversations with the very nice people from the BATF. Are all these things related?

If so, supposing that I theoretically had six boxes of BBS sitting here, are they still legal?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Yes.

Barnes sent out a letter on it. In it, they mentioned they were positive that the BATF would allow them to resume mfg./sales of it.

I wouldn't worry about ownership, since it is the mfg that is illegal, not the ownership. :)

I hope they start making/selling them again, I liked those rounds.

On the legality side, I'm not a lawyer but I don't see how they (the gov) can make something illegal to own after you legal purchased it.
I have no doubts that they would try & probably have tried before. But that's just a slimy thing to do.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

The document at the link that fd57 provided states that they are not seeking an exemption for .223 caliber banded solids. It does not sound like they will be making those again.

So... if I can legally own them, can I use them to reload 5.7?
