They are already planning on an Avenger's sequel (no surprise there, they can't come up with new ideas anyway)
http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-tal ... 00761.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also in the works:
The third "Iron Man" is scheduled for 2013.
"Thor" numero dos is also on the slate for 2013.
A "Captain America" sequel should happen in 2014.

Growing up I thought the super hero movies were great. Until about 93. Then they started to suck hard noodles. Not into comic books since (ironically) about 93, but I do like a few of the recent super hero movies. Batman, Iron Man 1 and The Watchmen liked. Spiderman, Fabulous 5, no likey.

I'm on the same page, though I did like the first Spider-man. The Avengers was a very enjoyable movie. But as an overall cinematic experience, the last Batman with the IMAX footage was astounding. I'm looking forward to the third Batman that is reported to have over 60 min of IMAX footage. If you get the chance, pay the couple extra bucks and see it in an IMAX theater - way better bang for the buck than all the cheap 3D out there lately.

Epic FAIL I'm guessing:
They are re-doing "The Munsters" but making it into a drama. :wall:

They're also casting Jerry O'Connell to play Herman Munster. I kinda liked Sliders & a couple of his movies but I don't think the combination of The Munsters as a drama with Jerry as Herman is gonna make it.

They only picked jerry O'Connell because it would take less prosthetic's to get him ready every day. ;-)

That 70's Avengers? It was a joke. Fan based movie trailer using clips from TV shows and movies. Was never made. Poorly done. Used clips from too many different shows and it was just wrong.

The only thing Jerry O'Connell did other than the first few seasons of Sliders that was worth watching was Joe's Apartment. Now THAT was classic.

Obviously Lord of the Rings made tons of money & yeah, I also liked the movies.
Last night, a friend really wanted to go see the new prequel movie of that sort, "The Hobbit."

Ok fine, I went too. I thought it was going to be just drama & action like the other ones but it turned out to be funnier than I expected. Still had the drama & action but also threw in a little 'comic relief.'

The other great one from that era was The Longest Day. Great cast of classic stars, it even won a few Academy Awards. It also was about 3 hours long. I have both on Blue Ray.

I am so tired of political correctness and was really looking forward to what looked like the most politically incorrect movie ever. They somehow screwed it up. Don't get me wrong, there were a few real laugh-out-loud moments, butttt...

Given the choice between watching this or Battlefield Earth, I might pick Movie 43.

Pardon me while I go wash my eyes out with bleach now...

I just saw "End of Watch". It was great. What "Training Day" should have been. Sorry, thought that one was way overrated.

Also went and saw "Django Unchained". Have to say Tarantino may be an idiot, but I have enjoyed all his movies. Except maybe "From Dusk Till Dawn". That one sucked.

This thread is just not active enough.

Ok so this is not a movie, it's was a TV series. I don't care, it's still epic, and with all due respect to all the Firefly fans here, IMHO BSG wins hands-down in awesomeness. Don't get me wrong, Firefly is still awesome... just not as awesome.

So in that spirit, look what I just mounted over my TV:

Image

Image

It's a good 3' behind the TV so it looks smaller in the pic, but the print is actually 62" wide which is the same width as the TV. Yeah, I know it looks like it's not parallel to the moulding above it, but I leveled it - the fraking moulding in my apartment isn't level, grrr, I have to move now!

A) Yes, I know I'm a geek.
B) You wish you had this geeky print.
3) This is just for the OCD's in the group.

Meh, I didn't think it was all that; found myself comparing it to the original most of the time. I still have problems buying the whole merging of the species concept. Knocking up a cyborg? If they look like that, I can understand trying to ;) but trying for a master race of hybrids? Little too far out there for me.

Also note that it ran for 4 seasons & so had a chance to develop its plot & characters. Firefly only had the one season before its untimely demise & still managed to accumulate a serious fan base.
IMO, Firefly > BSG

I see. Yet a planet full of Rage-Virus-Zombified people (Reavers) being able to successfully, even expertly build/navigate/fly space ships doesn't put a dent in your ability to suspend your disbelief???

Blue, first, I am not putting down Firefly even a tiny little bit. It's a great show and I even watch Castle solely because Nathan Fillian is in it along with lots-o-Firefly Easter eggs (ok, ok. Stana Katic is a good reason to watch as well). I have it on DVD and Serenity on bluray as well. I'm just saying, again with all due respect to the Firefly fans (of which I am one), that BSG is a better show IMHO.

Second, have you even watched the BSG series?

I'm sure you have because of all the people here who know better than to offer a review of a product without first-hand knowledge, it would be you.

I have seen over 10 episodes of BSG.

It is a very edge-of-your-seat hold-your-breath-till-your-head-explodes series. Few other shows have made me so nervous and tense, while watching.

Of course, the emotional and mental pay-off, as such, is great. This observation is not meant to detract from the perceived awesomeness of the show. It is merely stated to point out that Firefly does not use this mechanic.

It is entirely apples to oranges.

BSG stands close to many other series in terms of "traditional" tropes and mechanics. Even the non-traditional does not make it very far.

Firefly is outside the box. In fact, there is no box, no sound; just space, and everything in it; within, without, and withall.

THAT IS ALL.

JEWEL STAITE IS SO CUTE IT KILLS ME.

10 episodes is not enough. You need to watch both series in their entirety to be able to compare. BSG also tackled many cultural and societal issues that we have been dealing with, but set in space. Yes they are apples and oranges to a degree. Maybe Firefly could have topped BSG if it had had the chance for more full character development. Maybe not. We may never know.

And yes, Kaylee is shiny!

Inara is OMG Shinier!!!

Get yer trivia straight ya purple belly! :p
First, Reavers aren't on a planet, they hang out in space. And the reaction was only .1% of the population of Miranda, not the whole planet (30million).
B - They don't build their ships, they capture them. They also don't really maintain them, as indicated by "they're flying without containment."
三) They were likely able to fly the ships before they became Reavers. Remember, the rage thing wasn't viral or undead, it was the Pax (Paxilon Hydrochlorate) which the Alliance put into the atmospheric processors.

So yes, the fact that they retain knowledge is no big stretch; they just have severe anger management and self mutilation issues. Same applies to any engineering concepts they may use such as building the EMP device used to disable ships before boarding (or to shoot Serenity out the sky in the movie) and the booby-traps they leave for rescue ships.

Drugs that can alter one's state of mind to induce rage but leave knowledge intact? Totally believable, already exists.
Humans knocking up a robot (or vice versa) to create a master race? Not so much.
But for the record, I too would try. I get Athena, you can have Six. But I would take Kaylee over either one of them.

Ok, so you apply suspense of disbelief disproportionally across TV shows. I get that. I completely bought into Lost In Space when I was a kid, so I get buying into whatever floats your boat.

I think my real issue here is understanding your choice in TV Sci-Fi women. I just want to understand your preference of the women mentioned in this thread. I'm gonna draw a picture because they're worth a thousand words (and also need to keep it as PG as possible in the public forum). This is what you're saying, right?

I hate to have to point this out, but the personalities that we perceive our favorite TV/movie personalities have, could be be off just a little. Or a LOT.

Obviously we know that they are only playing characters on the big or little screen butttt, even in interviews where you think they may be giving us a peek inside the "real" Jewel or or Tricia or Grace. Maybe yes and maybe no.

I've had the interesting opportunities to meet some famous people in real life when I ran big-box retail stores up in NY. Believe me, the REAL personality comes out when one is shopping. For example: Howard Stern was, in reality, a very quiet, private person - nothing like his on-air persona. Goldie Hawn seemed to hate people in general, at least while I was babysitting her while her people shopped for her. Tino Martinez (Yankees) was incredibly stuck-up as shi poopies. And Robert De Niro was the nicest guy you'll ever meet. You just never know.

Soooo, when it comes to TV, really all we can go by are those pretty faces.

Having said that, I wouldn't kick any of the above mentioned BSG or FF ladies out of my, um, kitchen.

Bwahaha.

EDIT: Now Blue, please stop trying to rationalize or add common sense to an otherwise healthy discussion (and pictures) about hot, Sc-Fi chicks. :p

jgreenberg, I wouldn't put a red circle over any of them. And yes, I am speaking strictly about the characters portrayed as I do not know the people.
Kaylee > Athena > Inara > Six
On second thought, I might red circle Six - she was a bit of a psych case...

Blue, I'm a Kaylee fan too. And Firefly is infinitely better than that fanboyerific BSG. But if you all are Inara fans, she is topless in Homefront. Just saying.

But again, I would rather have Kaylee.

You say "fanboy" like it's a bad thing, and that's fine. The problem is that you really need to apply that term to fans of both series. And I'll admit to being a fanboy of both as they both have a large and dedicated following. You can guess by my custom wallet (and previous posts) which one I prefer though:

Yes, I am a major geek, but then again, the first step is to admit that there's a problem.

By the way, with all the comparison of the women in BSG & FF, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Summer Glau...

I got that.

I'm just blurring the lines between the characters & the actors. I agree that frakking a Cylon is a scary thought. And that's why I would rather picture a Jeff sandwich with Grace Park & Tricia Helfer bread.

On the FF menu, it would have to be Morena Baccarin & Summer Glau.

But of course all of that is just fantasy, as I don't expect them to come knocking on my door any time soon. So as long as we're talking fantasy, it's time to switch back to the characters and for me... Inara out hands down out of all the BSG & FF gals. As Jayne said when Inara was with the female Councillor: "I'll be in my bunk."

But I still thing that BSG is the better series! :p

BSG? Loved it until the fourth season where they painted themselves into a corner and couldn't figure a way out besides the lame ending.

Firefly? Network execs are the biggest MORONS on planet Earth for canceling it. But that's just it. They live on Earth and just don't understand the 'verse.

Fanboy denotes someone that has to have something because of a show, besides maybe DVDs or movie/promotional poster of the show. So if you have to have memorabilia or guns because a show has it denotes being a fanboy.

I am not a Firefly fanboy because I don't have any of that. I love the show for its well thought out creativity and uniqueness. I would never own a Firefly ship model, or *COUGH* original art piece mixing renaissance painting with sci-fi characters *AHEM*.

But hey, to each their own. If that is what float your boat, all the better for you.

I still might make fun of you for it though ;)

I don't mean a model of a firefly, I mean the actual ship.
You may call me a fanboy because of it but I wouldn't care.

For that matter, I wouldn't mind the actual Galactica either :laugh:

Ok, now you're just making stuff up. I only have heard (and used) fanboi or fanboy in a somewhat derogatory term. I did that not so much because of the behavior exhibited, but because of the causes they picked to be fans of. Can anyone say Twilight?

But because I didn't really know the etymology of the words(s), I wanted to check before saying pants on fire. Typically, fanboi/fanboy is defined as a person who is strongly devoted to, possibly bordering on obsessed with a show/movie/band/etc. Nowhere can it be found that owning memorabilia is a parameter of being a fanboy. Take your pick of definitions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanboi#Fanboy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fanboi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fanboi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fanboy#English" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And of course, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fanboy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For the record, I am proud to be a fanboy of Firefly & BSG. Throw Star Trek in there too. Star Wars to a certain extent as well. The genre is a great escape for me from the pressures of the business world. And yes, I like memorabilia & props to help create a certain... ambiance in the home theater.

And guns too. Lot's of guns.

Oh wait, does that make me a firearm fanboy/fanboi? :p

Well then by that definition I'm not a fan boy either, because I am not obsessed with any show or movie. I enjoy quite a few, but obsession? no.

Still symptoms of obsession and thus fanboyism still fit with my definition.:p

I submit that we all have to face up to the fact the we are all fanboys of firearms. 95% of the people on this forum are PASIONATE supporters of the second amendment rights. Are you gonna try to tell me that Glock fans don't border on fanatics (and for no good reason IMHO)?

We here are into Five-seveNs for the most part, but certainly firearms in general.

Fine, I'm tired of this and will let you have the last word.
You're still a fanboy!!! Na-nee-na-nee-boo-boo

Superman & Batman on the same big screen. Yes.

The particular casting for the role... I don't even know what to think about this.
In a statement, director Zack Snyder expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Meh. I prefer to underestimate, degrade and expect utter <profanity> when it comes to, well just about everything - especially movies. So that way, it's nice when I'm surprised. Didn't he already do a superhero movie where he was deaf and blind or something?
