KICKASS was a really good movie, it was nothing even close to what I thought it'd be though.

Bit late to this but....
If you haven't go watch the Wolfman remake,it got some bad press but I think it's one of the better remakes out there.
granted it's gory but a lot of fun I just got the DVD a few days ago.
The funny thing is most gave it bad reviews on the way the werewolf looked-actually it's a real good updated take on the original so I see it as a plus and not a minus.

Re: Epic Movie Thread
LOL Brilliantly hilarious synopsis of suckformers 3 is on ToplessRobot. Here's a snippet:
http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/06/top ... q.php#more" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Every time this 2-bit crotch monkey makes a transformers movie he rapes a little bit of my childhood.
FYI: NSFW language and spoiler alert (as if you couldn't predict exactly how it will play out if you have 2 brain cells to rub together)Is it as bad as Transformers 2?
No. Not even close.
Really? Does that mean it's good?
No. Not even close. But it's not a wretched cinematic atrocity against man and god, so I consider that an improvement.
Well, before we get into the plot, can you sum up your feelings on the film for people who don't want to be spoiled?
Yes I can. I've seen a lot of reviews that compare the movie to Michael Bay dangling his keys in front of the audience's face, as if they were babies that were easily distracted by shiny objects, but that's not strictly accurate. Imagine Michael Bay staring at you and pulling out his keys once every 10 minutes for 10 to 15 seconds. After an hour and a half, he pulls out his keys and leaves them out for an entire hour. Also, the keys are now exploding.
...so is the movie worth seeing?
Depends on how much you like keys.

HAHAHA
Bay used footage from some other movie in the new T3 movie. Budget restraints? Lack of imagination? Your call, I guess.

/Film points out rightly that older films used to use stock footage all the time, and that a lot of movies use footage shot for other movies that we don't notice (one of the most famous being the end of Blade Runner, which was footage Stanley Kubrick shot for the beginning of The Shining, but didn't use). But there's a difference between using stock footage, and using footage that was shot previously but not used, and using footage that you yourself shot and used in a movie six years ago, don't you think? It's not like Bay's TF3 budget wasn't absurdly high. That was the shot that was going to break the bank? If so, then why not cut out the scenes of the Beef's parents, or, god forbid, even a tenth of the utterly needless wingsuit footage instead? It's not like they served any purpose in the plot. You know, every time I think I've finally understood how much contempt Bay has for his audiences, he still manages to shove a bit more garbage into the bin.

D) Megan Fox (for getting fired by Bay/Spielberg)

More on topic: I have nothing against Michael Bay, in fact I think a couple of his movies are pretty good - Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. I would even put PH in the epic category, although I don't think it rises to the Saving Private Ryan level.
All IMHO of course.

I know, I am just messing with you.
Really though, I thought Pearl Harbour was a travesty. I have to agree with Mr Parker and Stone when they wrote that song in Team America saying that movie sucked.
But, I loved the Rock, really like both the transformer movies, and thought the Island was underrated.
But PH really, really sucked.

I understand where you're coming from on PH - I just thought the CGI was seamless and sometimes I get overly impressed by that as long as it doesn't overwhelm the story or completely overshadow it. I do have to admit though that I actually enjoyed The Island.
I still think that Saving Private Ryan was a masterpiece, but then again, I also liked Hot Dog The Movie  (though not quite in the same ball park or even a similar league...).

Re: Epic Movie Thread
Hollywood Exec #1: We need a new movie.
Hollywood Exec #2: Okay, let's think of one.
Hollywood Exec #1: No, don't be stupid! We need an old one, and we'll just redo it.
Hollywood Exec #2: ...okay... but almost every movie's already been remade at this point, or is being remade.
Hollywood Exec #1: Huh. Are there any TV shows that haven't become movies yet?
Hollywood Exec #2: A few, but they've all been optioned as well.
Hollywood Exec #1: Videogames?
Hollywood Exec #2: Same deal.
Hollywood Exec #1: Dammit. Wait a second!
Hollywood Exec #2: What?
Hollywood Exec #1: Games, that's it!
Hollywood Exec #2: Huh?
Hollywood Exec #1: Board games!
Hollywood Exec #2: What the <profanity> are you talking about? You can't make a movie out of a board game.
Hollywood Exec #1: Sure you can! All you need to make a movie is a title people know! And people know the name of board games!
Hollywood Exec #2: But board games have no plot.
Hollywood Exec #1: Jesus, are you really a Hollywood executive? <profanity> plot! All we need is a name!
Hollywood Exec #2: Fine. So what game?
Hollywood Exec #1: Something action-y... got it! Battleship!
Hollywood Exec #2: Battleship.
Hollywood Exec #1: Yes! I'm brilliant!
Hollywood Exec #2: You're going to make a movie about two kids playing Battleship.
Hollywood Exec #1: No, you fool! I'll make a movie about battleships! Playing Battleship! With battleships!
Hollywood Exec #2: Actually, it's still weird you're doing a movie based on a board game, but that's actually not the worst movie idea--
Hollywood Exec #1: Even better! American battleships versus alien ships! It's a battle for the planet!
Hollywood Exec #2: Wait, where the <profanity> did the aliens come from?
Hollywood Exec #1: Space, obviously. Ooh! Spaceships! Alien spaceships! Versus battleships!
Hollywood Exec #2: So this movie, which is going to be named Battleship, actually has nothing to do with Battleship the game.
Hollywood Exec #1: It has the same name! That's all that matters!
Hollywood Exec #2: Fine. I'm going to do a mountain of cocaine until this plan actually seems like it makes a bit of sense.
Hollywood Exec #1: I already have!

Re: Epic Movie Thread
The saddest part is that this country is full of idiots that think this is a good idea. (LOL sounds like the last election) I watched the trailer, and if it wasn't associated with the board game, it might be a decent movie. But associating the classic game with an alien invasion is just insulting our intelligence. In an epic way. Sigh.

Went & saw Transformers 3 - I like the cameo appearances by the 2 "Chuck" cast members (Jeff & Fernado) And of course Alan Tudyk (aka Wash from Serenity).
I went with a friend who didn't recognize the new prime bot's voice :skep: She even claimed to be trekie - how do you not know Spock's voice? Leonard Nimoy has one of the more recognizable voices in Hollywood next to James Earl Jones.
1st flaw I noticed was Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit - shouldn't mission commanders have red stripes on their suits? I also agree with the ditching the wingsuit footage or at least trimming it.

Check out "9th Company" on Netflix. It is a Russian film about Afghanistan. Worth the time, IMO.

Re: Epic Movie Thread
This is, in many ways, worse than the desecration of the transfromers franchise:
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118044771" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Warner Bros. has greenlit its live-action remake of the anime cult hit "Akira" for a late February/early March start, sources tell Variety.
In July, Warners tapped Spanish helmer Jaume Collet-Serra ("Unknown" ) to direct at a budget of $90 million, which was brought down from an initial figure of well over $100 million. Where the budget stands now isn't clear, and Warner Bros. had no comment on the project.
With a greenlight in place, studio can begin shopping for the two male leads; sources tell Variety that "Tron: Legacy" star Garrett Hedlund is considered a front-runner. Both Warners and Collett-Sera have been keen on the thesp, but had to wait for a greenlight to make their move.

Re: Epic Movie Thread
I saw Act of Valor last night. You could tell which characters were actors and which were team guys pretty easily. The SEAL that played Chief 'Jefe' was actually pretty effing good at acting, in a funny but hokey kind of way. Some of his one liners were pretty epic.
All in all, they did pretty well in the movie to show a glimpse into the life of NSW guys. It was just a glimpse. And it was very entertaining.
Anyone else seen it yet? What did you think?

I went last weekend.....
I agree with Irish on his opinion (not that I have to agree with him but his points are very valid )
simiply put, it's worth the time to watch, of course I loved the shooting...
the end was a tear jearker........
I was watching at first to see if I saw anybody that I knew but then realized that the majority would be retired by now (or on other teams getting ready to retire).
my daughter and son in law went too and they gave a :thumb:
All I did was torture hundreds of innocent people, wipe out an entire
generation of Jedi, assist in destroying the rightful government in exchange
for a malevolent dictatorship, destroy a planet, torture my daughter that I
didn't even know existed, chop off my son's hand and I'm the bad guy.

Trouble no one about his religion.
Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.

Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, or even a stranger, if in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people, but grovel to none.
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light,
for your life, for your strength.
Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
When your time comes to die,
be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death,
so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”

Looking forward to this....I read the books 25-30 years ago. The one attempt to bring it to screen that I saw was disappointing, even with Tracy Lords as the Princess of Mars.
I see Disney gives no credit to Edgar Rice Burroughs in the trailers.

I wonder if they will turn this into a white guilt/ignorant white people movie, in which the reverse of traditional "white man saves the day" (which is still pretty much ruining would-be-awesome Asian movies, currently, with crappy main/white actors), occurs.
Johnny Depp is, once again, poised to take the reigns as the main attraction next to a much lesser-known actor. You can but wonder if this will be the case.
Time will tell.

There's a new trailer for Hasbro's Bayformers-esque destruction porn movie Battleship, and it's unique from the previous trailers in that there's barely any battleships in it. While you might think this seems odd, please remember that this is a movie about aliens destroying cities, despite being based on a board game about ships destroying each other, and also the military doesn't actually use battleships any more, so really, we're just reaching the movie's logical conclusion here.
It hurts me, it physically hurts me to know that this steaming sh!tpile is going to gross $700 million dollars while John Carter will be lucky to break $100 mil in the U.S., because most people are idiots who like seeing sh!t break more than they like characters, story, and quality. They might as well have titled Battleship LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR: THE MOVIE. Hell, it would certainly be more accurate than "Battleship."

Just saw the trailer for Prometheus. The rich guy's name is Peter Weyland & even uses the same company symbol as seen in Aliens. If you watch the other trailers, you will see other similarities as well.
It's another prequel.
Its kinda funny in that the aliens have been on Earth for 2 movies so far & next year we'll run into them again in yet another movie BUT in the future, people still have no clue they exist (as per the hearing scene in Aliens). :skep: Although it does seem to be about ship they found in the 1st Alien movie... Maybe we'll find out what the hell that elephant man looking thing was?

John Carter Headed For $200 Million Loss
For those of us who are fans — and always will be fans — of the marvelous Edgar Rice Burroughs series John Carter of Mars, the news that the film version will lose somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 million is depressing. The BBC critic Mark Kermode summed up the movie’s major problem:
"The storytelling is incomprehensible, the characterization is ludicrous, the story is two and a quarter hours long and it’s a boring, boring, boring two and a quarter hours long."
The film cost a staggering $250 million to make and another $100 million to promote. A Disney spokesman confirmed to the Daily Mail the bad news, saying, “In light of the theatrical performance of John Carter, we expect the film to generate an operating loss of approximately $200 million.”
Beyond the Hollywoodisms and other inside-industry explanations, there is the cultural chasm between the world in which John Carter was originally created by Burroughs and the less literate, less imaginative, more realistic world into which the film was released.

I never heard it had been made by Disney until a couple weeks ago when Mo and I went to see Act of Valor and saw the preview.

Re: Epic Movie Thread
I received a few Harkins tickets from a co-worker a long while back as a thank you for something or other.
It was a nice gesture, they even mailed them to me, since I don't work in the office (2+ hour drive to get there, and then 2+ more back.)
Funny thing is, we didn't have a Harkins down here until not too long ago, so they sat and collected dust.
Long story short, took the mini-me to see John Carter.
My expectations were low.
I had no cash investment in the entertainment.
My memory of the details of the story line has suffered in the last 30ish years.
I don't know if it was worth $250MM to produce, but it didn't suck rocks.
