Gotta love CDNN!

Post by nrv216 » 07 Sep 2011, 09:55

So I decided that I was going to buy a PTR-91 for my all purpose rifle and I was perusing gunbroker and gunsamerica for a good deal. The best I found was a PTR MSG-91 for $1589.99+ $30 shipping on gunbroker that came with the magpul stock and a bipod mount but not the bipod.

So the lightbulb went off in my head and I checked CDNN. They had the MSG-91 with the magpul stock, the harris bipod and mount, one 20rd mag and a Target Sports 10x42 tactical scope for $1617.89 shipped and no credit card fee!

Needless to say, its on its way as are 20 more mags from cheaperthandirt for .97cents each. :D I am assuming the scope that comes with it is of low quality but it will hold me over until I save up some more cash. Alright guys, I just had to brag a little so thanks for bearing with me! :thumb:

I'll make sure to snap some photos when it gets here. I will have to take an updated "family photo" too. By the way Rapier, where did you buy that drum mag I saw on your ptr. It had me drooling and I think that will be one of my first accessory purchases provided that you have had a good experience with yours. Let me know how you like it and how much it was etc. Thanks!

The only bad thing with that 50 round drum is cost - its over $200 & costs about $50 to fill up  (Until I start reloading .308 that is - need more bullets)

Do you know how long it takes to go through 50 .308 rounds accurately?

I think I got it from here: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct912.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I rarely use it, I have 5 20 round mags which I keep in the rifle case & normally use those. It is kinda big so it does effect clearance under the weapon. Hasn't been a problem for me (yet) but just FYI. If/when zombie day ever gets here, it will be nice to have :thumb:

Rapier,

Thanks for the info and the link. Yeah the drum would mostly be for the cool factor and for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. I bought 20 of the surplus 20rounders from CTD so if even half of them are in good shape I should be set on mags anyway.

So I got my aluminum G3 mags from Cheaper than Dirt today. I ordered twenty and am quite pleased with the quality of them. A few have light surface rust so I hit them with some steel wool and some CLP. Besides checking them once in a while and maybe re-buffing/ oiling them is there anything else you guys would suggest as far as mag maintenance? I see a lot of people online saying they are painting them with grill paint and baking them etc. I personally don't think that would be necessary but I just wanted your input. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Oh yeah and my ptr msg91 will be here on tuesday! Pics will be up shortly after!

Anyone?
I'm just wondering if, because you can see discoloration where the rust was, they will rust again or the rust will spread?

Rust on bare metal, I sand.

Rust on coat, I scotchbrite and 2500 grit sand, then oil.

Paint the bare metal after it is cleaned.

Nice rifle! Hey, you got a flash hider - wish mine did because then I would have threads for a muzzle brake to go on :) I still have to get my barrel turned down & put one on.

Not sure about yours but mine didn't have the best trigger for a sniper type rifle. Williams triggers was recommended to me by several people.

Rapier,

To be quite honest, I am not really a trigger connoisseur. Let me put it this way; it is nowhere near as nice as the single action pull on my s&w 629 but it is nicer than the pull on any of my glocks. Since I have the most experience with glocks, and I am not really a precision rifle shooter I do not think I will have much issue with my trigger.

I also love the cheep mags from CTD. I had cheek pad that I ordered for my Dragonov but it didn't raise my face high enough for the stock scope and mount, so I put it on my G-3 and really like the way raises my face for the Claw Mounted Scope. No matter how you put it, its a greaty 7.62 gun. I bought a green stock and hand guard to replace the original wood.
