FNP Handguns being Discontinued

Post by sabotteur » 28 Sep 2010, 15:39

Got this from one of my distributers today. Heard rumors on the other forum of people sending in FNPs for work and getting FNXs back in their place. I take everything over there with a grain of salt though, as the mods like to change post around and some of their 'veteren' members think they know everything and are some of the biggest source of mis-information I've seen in a long time.

Anyway, here are the models:
Mfg | Mfg# |
FN | 47574 | FNP 40 USG DA/SA Matte Bk 3-14Rnd
FN | 47960 | FNP 9MM DA/SA USG Blk Matte 16rd
FN | 47962 | FNP40 USG 40S&W MtBlk 14Rnd Earth

I would prefer to have the FNX40 because it is layed out like my FNP45. If I could afford it I would still like the have a FNP40 or 9 just because they are great guns for what I can tell.

FN already said long time ago that it would replace their P line :p

Why do you like the P better?

I like the ergo of the P slightly moreso than the X. Much smoother and easy to grip. The .45 lent itself to the design better than the smaller calibers imo.

The X has modular grips though right? Still can't get a better grip with those?

It's not the backstraps, but the checkering that makes it uncomfortable.

Sucks because we just started carrying the shooter packs for these things too..

Speaking of which, not sure if it was mentioned or not, since FN is discountinuing the FNP-9 and .40 we are having a little sale on the few that we have left. Our price on these used to be $498.87 each, but are now down to $475. You won't see it on our website, but if you place an order for one of these and it is in stock, your credit card will only be charged for the $475 cost of the gun plus the 2 day shipping fee. Basically you can get the pistol for $500 shipped pretty much plus what ever your transfer fees are.

This is only on the following models:
FN | 47574 | FNP 40 USG DA/SA Matte Bk 3-14Rnd
FN | 47960 | FNP 9MM DA/SA USG Blk Matte 16rd
FN | 47962 | FNP40 USG 40S&W MtBlk 14Rnd Earth

If you have any questions, just drop me a line. Just bought a DE FNP-9 for myself along with a shooter pack. Too bad the damn pro-staff rebate doesn't work on these. Gonna try my military rebate in it's place though...but the pro-staff one was much better. $200 off my next 5.7 though when I buy it before the end of the year though! :D

Thanks

Charles

At least the FNX (and maybe FNS?) will take the same shooter's pack... :)

Meh, doesn't look like much of anything better than the FNP. I've got my 45-tactical- the only one of the litter worth its weight in gold. Maybe if it gets discontinued the price will go up.

Can some one explain the differences between the P and the X? Is the X an updated design that's better then the P?

I think the markeing beancounters conviced them that "P"s dont sell better than "X"s.

You see, in the pharmaceutical world. There are like five key letters that sell. X, Z, V, L,and vowles (AEIOUY), which is why everhthing under the sun from butt creme, to boner pills, to the anti fungal stuff you put on your feet sounds like..

Xanthanoll, or Zellaphran, or Advliax, or Zuzupran, or Lazavax.... see a trend? The marketers have figured out that "Germano-Saxon consonant" sounds stimulate key parts of the brain that invokes the emotions of trust, authority, solidity, basically the old Viking reaction. Which is why this seems to work in white people more than any other group.

You think I'm kidding? Nope.. dead serious, research it. So go buy your "FNX"... sounds much more exciting than the old FNP.

I didn't think the dsp rebate worked on the fnp-9. My buddy just bought a FDE FNP-40 from the BX for just over $400

Why so bitter?
For me the big difference (in non-45 models) was the safety system which adds the ability to be carried cocked and locked. A significant difference and one that had prevented me from purchasing an FNP.

The rest of the changes: new mags, ambi mag release, extra backstraps, frame stippling, etc. I do agree are fairly minor.

The FNP-# USG models have the manual safety (MS) on them. I thought that they all came with the MS, but not the case. Did not find this out, until after I bought one and had it home. I had seen enough of the USG models that I did not even think about checking on them when I bought the one that I have.

Somehow I missed that when the FNP's were out. The only ones I ever saw were decocker only. Did the USG models come out later?

Oh well, I suppose this is where I lose friends. Take away the 9mm... and your point is? Lose the 40? Praise God unless you are a felon.

The FNP USG model started coming out in 2007, according to customer rep at FN USA told me. He told me that they were made at the same time, standard and USG models. He even said the the general public didn't really know. When I asked him about putting the safety on the standard model, he said that FN can not do it. Don't know if that meant it can't be done period, or not by FN. @ father. Are you saying good ridens to the 9 or the 40? Both are useful in their own capibilities. Both will get the job done. Just sayin.
