EDITED: I see, it's a SPAS-15, not a SPAS-12. That is REALLY nice :clap:

"...And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

There must be some sort of novelty of the SPAS15, either its a pre-ban unicorn, or its entry level NFA.

From wiki: In 1996, the United States banned the importation of the SPAS-15, but it can still be legally owned and sold. In Canada, the SPAS-15 is classified as a Prohibited Weapon and cannot be legally owned or imported except under very limited circumstances.[3] In Italy the SPAS-15 is not subject to any kind of restriction for sale, purchase or possess, and despite being no longer in production it is still fairly common on the civilian market.

Any clues why it was banned?

Nice, kind of reminds me of when the AA-12 was once available in Semi-Auto in the early days. Didn't take advantage of the opportunity at the time, but very cool if you're looking for something that devastating.

If it's like the Striker-12, USAS-12, Street Sweeper, etc, it was deemed as not having a sporting purpose and thus classified as a destructive device under this BATFE ruling, although said ruling names them by name so I'm not certain.

It's funny, the gun looks very Robocop to me :laugh:

Ive seen one at a chantilly show, had to be on of these 86'. As far as price, i dont remember what it was. this is a good read on it. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=171989" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't think the AA-12 has ever been for sale to civis, as they were manufactured after the ban. The USAS-12 however was banned in 2001. I think this may be where the confusion is, given the similarity in name and looks.

--After doing some reading, I found that the "Atchisson Assault Shotgun" was developed in 1972, was the basis for the USAS-12, and the rights and plans were later sold. Changes were made, giving us the 2006 "AA-12".
So the Atchisson Assault and USAS-12 -could- have been sold in the states prior to being classified as destructive devices, the AA-12 could/can not.

Mr. Jerry Babar, President/CEO of Military Police Systems, Inc. (MPS, Inc.) of Piney Flats, Tennessee and developer of the AA-12 Shotgun, kindly answered my questions today, 23 Feb 2009, which I transcribed (possibly with some minor errors) as follows: " your call about the AA-12. By the 1986 Federal law, any [machine] guns made prior to 19 May 1986 are transferable, and there are 400,000 legal machine guns in the United States. Any [machine] guns made after 19 May 1986 are not transferable to civilians and cannot be [built by or owned (inaudible)] by civilians. And in fact, if I ever get my license up, I can assure you that I can't even have them [AA-12's]. I can't keep them in stock or transfer them, or somebody will have my license. There are 19, almost 20 [AA-12] guns built right now and they are with various military operations for evaluation, and they are involved with some of the manufacture of them [AA-12's]. Watch the Military Channel in June [2009] for the new Robot video that we just did. It is a really good 20-30 minute video. It will be under the "Ultimate Weapons" program. Also, the New Yorker magazine has a six page article on us. I appreciate you for calling. Thanks alot."

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match or anything, I'm just saying that nowhere so far have I seen anything saying the current model of the AA-12 is or has ever been owned by civilians.

You can't own the current model. The older ones you can, they sell for about 1k, and they are a class III item even though they are semi-auto.

Do a search on GB, if one doesn't pop up, look over the past 90 days. There should be one or two of them.

It would probably be quite easy to make a gun shoot on command...what's the law on that? :skep:
