Re: ss197 jamming
What do you mean by "jam"?
Failure to eject?
Failure to feed?
Double feed?
...?

The other obvious question is "Did you clean it before you went to the range?"

Re: ss197 jamming
darn. too slow. Darn you fuzzy.
sco78, welcome to the forum Yeah, what IS your problem?! :p
It's not uncommon, just part of the break-in. It'll go away after a while.

Re: ss197 jamming
was clean. failed to load. just pulled the slide back a little, and it loaded. i shot it today, and no problems with two clips. or mags or what ever.
the laser seems like its finally on. it was moving every once in a while. i just dont like the front sight. seems too wide. i guess i could have adjusted it to make the target above the sight, but im set in my ways of lining up the dots. doh

Re: ss197 jamming
Fired more than 50 SS197 rounds through my fairly new FN 5.7 today. Slow fire, rapid fire, doubles, triples. No jam. Just kept on going. Fun!!!
Yes, I did clean the gun and removed any grease/lube when I first took it out of the box, and lubed it well after cleaning.
1. Maybe it needs more break-in period, as another poster mentioned earlier.
2. Is it possible to "limp-wrist" an FN 5.7? Has anybody experienced that? I have tried limp-wristing a Glock 17 (9mm) and it jammed.
3. Have you tried shooting with the other two magazines? Sometimes, a magazine could be defective.
Good luck! I hope you're jamming gets resolved soon.

This is barely readable and hardly makes sense to me;sco78 wrote:was clean. failed to load. just pulled the slide back a little, and it loaded. i shot it today, and no problems with two clips. or mags or what ever.

1. how did it fail to load? Did the slide not ride home all the way? Make sure you're pulling back all the way and releasing and not pushing the slide forward.
2. As the Admin said, it's called a mag. Clips are not used in this pistol. It just helps people understand you better.
3. I don't understand how the front sight is wide; it's actually thinner than many sights...
4. If you line up the dots, I don't understand how this stops you from changing your hold from a 12 o'clock (right on target) to a 6 o' clock (sunset/lollipop/below target) hold.
1. Maybe it needs more break-in period, as another poster mentioned earlier.
Yeap. Just like any other factory gun.

It's hard to limp wrist a 5.7. Furthermore it's a light gun, the slide usually does the work it's supposed to.
3. Have you tried shooting with the other two magazines? Sometimes, a magazine could be defective.
Uh.. everyone's pretty much used the other magazines... why wouldn't you...? :ponder:

Re: ss197 jamming
Yesterday I ran about 250 rounds threw my 5.7 and not one jam or fail to fire. I actually have never had a fail to fire or a jam and I have shot over 1500 rds...
There can only be two.
Re: ss197 jamming
Bad ammo - I can convert all of it for you into once fired brass and return the casings to you. I'll even pay your UPS costs to get those bad rounds to me.

Re: ss197 jamming
At my age I get a clip about every couple months--usually while enjoying a magazine. Just smile, we're friends here and if the guys didn't like you, they wouldn't clown with you.

Clip? I thought those were done away with long ago - The likes of Mosin Nagants and M1 Garands....sco78 wrote:if i say clip, who doesnt know what i mean?
Re: ss197 jamming
So... I haven't seen anyone else post this, so I figured I'd chime in...
When loading the magazine, make sure all of the rounds are as far back as possible. I have heard of feeding issues, if they're not. (happens with M16's/ARs as well, especially if the slide is slowed down by anything else. e.g.: Limp wrist, dirt, carbon, excessive lube, etc)

Here you go
magazine fed weapons do not use clips. They use removable magazines. Clip fed weapons like the M1 Garrand do.

Re: ss197 jamming
The way I learned to tell the difference was that a magazine has a spring, a clip does not. I do not know if there are exceptions, but this has served me well.
Re: ss197 jamming
I went out saturday and got my first problems with the pistol. 3 magazines in a row with failure to load. Turned out the problem was I didn't seat the magazine hard enough. I really have to pop that thing to get it to seat correctly.

Re: ss197 jamming
I lost count the number of times I watch shooters stare blankly as they take their first shot and their mag falls out the pistol. Glad you figured it out and it wasn't a bigger problem :thumb:Higgs666 wrote:I went out saturday and got my first problems with the pistol. 3 magazines in a row with failure to load. Re: ss197 jamming
Higgs666, When you have a chance. Attend a handgun course hosted by the NRA or your local law enforcement. Even if you already know it all, you will learn something new. Usually what not to do. But every issue you have had would of been covered in a four hour training block at most ranges. Not to hurt anyone's feelings, but I took my brand new, unfired (except for the factory test fire round), uncleaned FsN to the range for qualification. By the end of the range session, 550 rounds total were fired by 20 plus shooters, and I qualified the first time out. BTW it was also the first time I have ever shot a FsN. It never missed a lick, not even with the regular retards shooting it.
I have seen problems with Glocks when a light or laser is attached using a bolt like the TRL-1 and the TRL-2. Apparently the shooters with issues was able to bend a quarter using their retard strenght, which put stress on the frame causing it to flex at the front slide rails, preventing the slide from cycling. I have not seen nor heard of this happening to the FsN but I always keep that in mind. So if I need a light or laser I use the kind that you do not need tools to remove it.
