Longer sight radius.
And,
wow. Just wow. This means, many things. It may be my FsN dream come true.
My mind is racing right now. One word keeps surfacing. "Open class".

YES we will be selling them.
Velocity very close to P90.
We are making a threaded version.
We are making custom flash suppressors and muzzle brakes for them also.

Don't forget Vitaliy. He has been in charge of the barrel project. Yes we worked together on it but he has been the one sitting at the machine shop for days prototyping.

I miss Vitaliy
Please let him know I said hi.
Also, if he wants the second EA Open-class, can I have the third?
My extremely short firearms-list just got reduced to this. (Although the SSR might be hiding somewhere).
I'm not sure people realize what just happened here.
Do ya'll realize how many handgun calibers EA just made obsolete? EA Rounds + setup just put everything into the dirt. We're going to have to start comparing 5.7x28mm using EA designations. In all the future apples to oranges caliber comparisons whoever starts the threads will need to start comparing it to much more devastating calibers and above.
I honestly don't think people realize what you've just done, EA.

The threaded barrel will be shorter.
The comp will have a standard Kimber/1911 dove tail cut so just about any after market front blade can be used.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
Took me a while to make sense of that answer, I think it finally dawned on me - derp. I was asking Jay why the longer barrel, not asking why Fuzzy wanted a new slide. (Sight radius is just the distance between sights right? As is, the longer barrel wouldn't do anything to sight radius. Hence Fuzzy's remark)blueorison wrote:Longer sight radius.Rapier1772 wrote:Um, why?
Anyway - I am still curious about why such a long barrel (extra 2"+?). I can see extensions for threading / compensator purposes but that is really about it for me. Those are what - an extra 3/4-1" in length? People already whine about how hard it is to conceal the FsN.
Yeah, you'll get higher speeds but at what cost? The inability to conceal the FsN with anything shorter than a trenchcoat? :p Or to make it so you can't bend your knee if you use an IWB? Ok, maybe that is a slight exaggeration
Or is this just a range barrel? They are easy to switch out after all.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
as far as concealment goes, most of the problems come from the grip length, not the slide length.
Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
I wonder what the implications on reliability are with this thing and a can on the end.

Jay you must be as cool as me because my safety is also disabled.
:lmao:
@Rapier: the same comment applies The comp can host a cut that will allow a FS blade to be mounted, and thus the longer sight radius. Yes, the sight radius is the distance between the sights. The longer the radius, the more precise you will be able to place shots and spatially reason the distance between the blades. This usually leads to more accurate administration of fire. :thumb:

Jay might or might not have told me that it will be cylindrical in dimension. So, it will basically look like a suppressor. That is if he told me this.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
Bones, I don't think it will increase the velocity by that much of a margin. But the increase that it will effect is definitely one that will add to the lethality and completely change the way certain rounds perform.
This will give EA the opportunity to tune the round performance for their custom barrel and length such that it will fulfill the round's intended function with increased lethality, repeatability, and reliability.
Further, Lisa, I call dibs on the annex! I think Father agrees you need a dedicated in-house testor

I cannot tell you how exciting this is!!! It will bring the bullet effect a tiny bit closer to that of the PDW - nice to have more efficient use of that powder than making a big flash and bang!

It's will be a short time before we decide the cost and such.
And anything custom made I prefer to have in hand before even putting up on the website.

Ok, I take that statement to mean the dovetail is for the mounting of a new front sight. If so, how is one to remove the barrel from the slide with this new sight installed unless the sight is remove for each cleaning?
I like the idea of an extended barrel, but it does present it’s own problems.
Just trying to learn.

is there another CA law that says we can't have extended bbls now w/o compensators? sigh yep, sight radius is the distance between front and rear sights. If (when) I get one, I'll think of it as my P90 Kurtz

No, you could have just the barrel - if it's not threaded. Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
Not necessarily. I'm pretty recoil insensitive and usually shoot .40SW/.357Sig and just about everything else. If I can squeeze more velocity out of it that would be great....uh to be honest, now that I think about it, there's nothing like shooting my 22/45 Ruger and just watch the front sight nudge up and down! Also, with my G-27 (extended Storm Lake dual port) - I get the fastest accurate strings I've ever had (.357 Sig)
Me w/ my P229 (no comp, but CTC grips, factory SRT mod and trigger group work) Win .357Sig 125FMJ

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
I keep looking at this barrel jutting out of a once very symmetrical and beautiful gun and just gasp. Perhaps I'm just a noob, but I can't imagine giving up what seems like tons of form for little function.
I don't have a PHD in physics, but it seems to me from the following data that there is a long way to go in bridging the gap between PS90 performance and the FsN. I guess that is why one is a pistol and the other is a carbine.
Stock FsN barrell length: 4.75in + modification (2in?) = 6.75in
Stock PS90 barrell length: 16.04in
The gap between the PS90 and FsN barrell length is 11.29in. After the modification the gap is now around 9.29in. The modification has narrowed the gap between the pistol and the carbine by 17.71%. To put my rude arithmetic into real life terms applying the 17.71% reduction in length gap to a 17.71% reduction in speed gap we get:
T6 PFP 28 grain
FsN: 2,570fps (stock) 2,663fps (modified barrel gain of 93fps)
PS90: 3,095fps
Using the kinetic energy formula we arrive at 411ft/lbs stock and 441ft/lbs with the modified barrel on the FsN. An increase of 30ft/lbs.
A gain of 30ft/lbs. with the trade off being a major loss in handling, form, and ability to conceal; I just don't get it. Please somebody enlighten me so I can be excited as well. Perhaps I made an error with my calculations of a gradual speed increase with a gradual increase in length? Perhaps more is gained in the first few inches than the last?
Also, those of you that are excited to put this long, exposed barrel on your gun? Why are you excited? Are you planning on trying to carry such a weapon?
Sorry to post the only negative comment in this thread but I just want some answers because I'm scratching my head over what seems like a large barrel extending party in here!
Also, if my memory serves, I thought I posted a critique early on in this thread?? Did somebody delete my post because it deviated from the status quo? That isn't very American.. :skep: I could be hallucinating though.. :ponder:

I don't think this barrel was intended for your carry gun. More for your range or comp gun.

It's called a comp for a reason. It goes on the barrel and extends the dustcover lines. You're right, you probably won't benefit from it.
I plan on carrying it because it's what I want.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
Speed will not go up linearly as the length gets longer. If that were the case, you could argue that since the T6 goes 2,570 fps in a 4.75" barrel, that every inch gives you 541 fps so an extra 2" gets you 3246 fps. I am pretty sure it's the burn rate that effects where in the barrel the speed is built.ShockedNKansas wrote: The gap between the PS90 and FsN barrell length is 11.29in. Also, how do I get in on one of those first 10 being done? I'd like a threaded barrel close to stock length without waiting forever at tornado tech.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
If you'll notice in my computations, I didn't simply divide the T6 velocity by the length of the stock barrel. What I did was find the percentage of length decrease of the distance gap between the PS90 and the FsN and correlate that to (perhaps falsely) the same percentage of speed gap decrease between the aforementioned guns.srt-4_jon wrote:Speed will not go up linearly as the length gets longer. What I do know is that T6 ammunition flies faster out of a PS90 than an FsN. What I don't know is how much of that 525fps speed differential is attributed to the first few inches versus the last. Someone with ballistic information on a round's speed out of a PS90 before and after a short barrel conversion would be helpful indeed.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
I thought just occurred to me; considering that the PS90 barrel is 338% longer than the FsN's while only enjoying a 20.42% greater margin of velocity, obviously at some point firearm barrel lengths suffer from diminishing returns. That should have been obvious from the beginning to me... Now the question is.. what velocity weighting can we assign to the two inches that this extension will afford?

The range, and because it's more excellent work by EA.
If I want to carry, it takes a whole what...15 seconds to pop my slide off, pull out the long barrel, stick in the short barrel, and put the slide back on?

That is because the 5.7x28 was created for the P90 with a 10.5 inch barrel and then the pistol. Your thinking like a civilian. The PS90 barrel length is to make it civilian legal. If it was a closed bolt system you would see greater increases in performance, but since it is a blow back you get limited gains. Our heavier rate reducer will help get better performance from the PS90 tube.
The 5.7x28 was optimized for the pistol and P90 barrel lengths. Our barrel almost doubles the pistols bringing it to just over 8 inches. So now it is very close to the P90 and what the round was optimized for.

Re: Check Out This Surprise Biatches
What he have here gentlemen/ladies is an entirely new weapon. We are looking at energies similar to or exceeding .357mag, terminal performance that can either spread shrapnel everywhere (a surgeon's nightmare) or open up ~5" wound cavities...whilst dumping all the energy INSIDE the target, a bullet that can easily penetrate soft armor, extremely light recoil, accuracy out to a couple hundred yards, and 31 round capacity. What's not to like? If you need it to be a little more compact one day, just swap out the barrels!
The 5.7x28 cartridge was designed to burn its powder inside the P90 barrel. The short FsN barrel wastes lots of energy in the flash. The blowback timing will be entirely different now too. You can't just start doing FPS by the inch guesses. The proof will be in the testing.

I apologize in advance for posting in kind of an aging/stale thread... but how goes the testing on this? I am also getting on the accurizing waitlist and if this could be accomplished in a one-shot deal (rimshot) that would be excellent...
