Wow. Just wow.

I don't drink that stuff because it's really not good for you, however... IT'S MY CHOICE not to drink that crap.

I definitely do NOT heart NY.

We didn't need more proof that Bloomberg is a tard. Over 16 ounces, that's his plan? Okay, we'll just buy two 16 ouncers now. Duh.

However, hope the sheople open their eyes and secure their footing, because the slide down the slippery slope appears to be gaining momentum.

WTF is wrong with people in our country?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

"Never underestimate the power of stupid in large groups" & NYC is a rather large group.

I like how biased it is - punish the restaurants & vendors but give the stores a free pass.
And the law doesn't apply to milkshakes cuz those are dairy & therefore healthy?

This part would get my panties in a bunch if I owned a restaurant in NY:
He also said he foresaw no adverse effect on local businesses, and he suggested that restaurants could simply charge more for smaller drinks if their sales were to drop.
2 things - who the FFFF does he think he is to dictate how someone runs their business? (legalities aside) YOU change your prices to offset MY interference?
2nd - "he foresaw no adverse effect" but is already making contingency plans?

Will you guys hurry up & get him out of office?

Why is it that in population centers, there tends to be a movement to pass stupid laws?

Yeah, people love to make fun of the slow fat kid in the lunch line, forgetting that their even dumber, fatter cousin is in line right next to them.

Remember when they said smoking was bad for you, and they wanted to ban it from casinos and bars.

I get the smoking ban (and yes I'm a smoker), and don't have a problem with going outside to smoke. Being in a closed room you're putting more people then just yourself at risk.

However, the soda thing is ridiculous. But what dumbocrats don't like, rather than just not buying it, they want to ban it. I just wish it would become the Lost City of Long Island already. We need to speed that whole global warming thing up. I'm gonna go burn a ton of coal now.

New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks

http://www.sugar.org/press-releases/fda ... syrup.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

WASHINGTON (May 30, 2012)
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today denied a Corn Refiners Association (CRA) petition to rename high-fructose corn syrup “corn sugar,” saying the action would only serve to confuse U.S. consumers and could even pose a health risk to those suffering from fructose intolerance.

The FDA ruling, issued in a letter to Corn Refiners Association President Audrae Erickson following 20 months of review, rejected all three arguments made in the CRA’s petition, which was filed on September 14, 2010. The CRA had asked the FDA to implement a name change after launching a multi-million dollar advertising and marketing campaign that argued that sugar and HFCS were identical.

So are HFCS sweetened drinks exempt? Because that is almost all of them.
You have to look hard to find anything with real sugar anymore.

*Do Americans drink too much soda? Probably. But I blame the government for this. Ever since the feds propped up the corn industry and imposed tariffs on sugar, our soda supply, and so much else, has been adulterated by High Fructose Corn Syrup. Buy a Coca-Cola from Mexico and you’ll notice it tastes great. That’s the cane sugar. It is also more satisfying, ounce for ounce. A soda with cane sugar comes at a premium cost, but I am easily sated by ten or twelve ounces. American sodas, back when they featured cane sugar, used to come in smaller bottles. And it would take less to satisfy one’s sweet tooth. HFCS, which is just as bad for you, seems not to do the job in as small a dose. Someone can easily chug three or four fountain sodas and be thirsty for more. Give him the vintage stuff and he’ll most likely be pleased with one bottle. This is my own unscientific observation and I lack the evidence to prove it. But it rings true for me.

Worried About The Soda Ban? Fear Not, Bloomberg to Support ‘National Donut Day’ Tomorrow
At Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s press conference touting his efforts to stop the sale of large soft drinks in restaurants, one reporter in attendance brought up the interesting fact that his administration also supporting “National Donut Day” tomorrow and inquired as to whether that muddled the mayor’s message on the issue.

Indeed, at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, Entenmann’s will be unveiling “Custom-made Entenmann’s large donuts, 1-foot in diameter” at Madison Square Park at the same time they unveil a “Proclamation Letter by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”
I'm starting to think that this is all more about someone not paying their "protection fee" to Mikey.

I was going to stay out of this thread, but every time I see the topic I think to myself: "Yes, NYC should be banned."
Maybe generalize it to a ban on population densities that exceed a particular threshold... :ponder:

Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative,
and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want
people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

I wouldn't want to ban NYC just on the grounds that they have the best pizza and bagels in the world (let the argument begin, but you'll lose that one  ).

On second thought... never mind. I'm sure Bloomberg will find a way to legislate those foods as well :wall:

I agree New Yorkers that put these people in power deserve the tyrants they are subjects to. For those that didn't vote for em, move. For Godsake I have been to NY several times. There is absolutely no reason to live there unless you are forcibly imprisoned.

As long as you're not in the major cities, NY is a very scenic state IMHO. Unfortunately, it is just run by an oppressive regime similar to PRK and property taxes are also outrageous.
