Trident 62 grain 223 REM or These new phones are amazing!

Post by ninthinning » 13 Dec 2010, 09:56

These new phones are amazing! I just up-graded to an android phone and am really impressed. I feel a little like a caveman using alien technology. This phone has an internet browser, GPS, video camera, flashlight, compass, stop-watch, RPN calculator and hundreds of other programs called apps. Apps are written in Java, a language similar to C. The phone (hand-set) has a camera that is surprisingly high quality. I have been working on a round for my AR15 and Trident 62 grain banded solid bullets. Here are some pictures from my awesome new phone. I pulled down some PMS 223 REM rounds to get new primed brass. Thought this would be a good test for the camera-phone photos.

Removed the pin from the shaping die. Great close up resolution.

Its snowing outside. Good detail in this photo.

I really like this RCBS powder measure. Again good close up resolution.

Great close up of a real pretty cartridge.

All ready to shoot.
God bless John Browning.

Ninth. The quality of those pictures and the photosensitivity is impressive.

Now please use them to take pictures of your target :)

Blue,
I have shot a bunch of these bullets through my AR15 with 1:7 twist and 18" barrel. These bullets through that gun are very accurate, more accurate than anything I have shot, including the Sierra 77 grain HPBT cannelure. I cannot get over the power of this new phone. When I shoot up a bunch of targets I will report back with photos.

Ninth, you just told me you found a more accurate round than 77gr SMK (LR). This is not completely surprising based on composition, physical characteristics, and small operation QC instead of having to deal with copper jackets and inconsistencies badgering your repeated bullet dia/taper/length. But to have seen it is a different story. I have some rounds from Jay and I have been saving them for a 1:7 or 1:6.~ twist bolt action. Perhaps I will ask for a loaner from my Hipower mentor. He just retired and will be training me to shoot with my strong eye (left shoulder/I'm cross-dominant). I've always shot hipower with my weak eye and boy does it strain it.

I will show him your targets, he is a GM shooter and his loads outperform the US MIL rounds he experiments with. For example I was shooting Mk262 77gr SMK, a special MIL round, and he had created a 77gr that outperformed it. It was VERY hot.

You guys should hang out, you'd probably come out with some disturbing sniper round. If he takes it to Camp Perry it'll freak everyone out haha. They've used everything up to VLD's and 100+ grainers to experiment with. I'm sure you know this; that's where the MIL gets their LR sniper round data from; civilians!

Romer,
That app is a great addition to this project. A++. I put the data for the trident bullet into the program and now I have a whole series of beautiful color graphs on my phone. The app ties right into the GPS for location and elevation and the weather service for humidity data. Amazing.

The trajectory chart for 5.7 x 28 lf195 projectile is impressive.

Thank you,

I brought my AR 15 with the 18" 1:7 twist barrel to the Clark County Shooting Park in Nevada. The shooting park is a world class gun range located north of Las Vegas at the foot of the Sheep mountains. 100 rounds each of EA Trident 62 grain brass banded bullets and 77 grain Sierra HPBT bullets were fired. I shot at 200 yards with the idea of making a serious comparison between these two bullets. Both bullets performed well but the Trident EA bullets really impressed me. The Trident EA bullets made the tightest groups of the two. Next test will be going into the desert and shooting targets at 600 yards. Those folks at Elite are real genius bullet designers. A++

Where did you get those bullets? Is that a compression load? How well did it do @ 600yrds?
