I was just at a gun show in St. George, UT. Two booths had 5.7. One had a case of ss197 and one had 10 boxes of ss195. Both were priced at $60 per box. Neither were selling any.

I'm in people's republic of Kalifornia. Lot's of Knee-jerk gun laws happen out here. Is any 5.7x28 ammo legal in Kalifornia now after Sandy Hook & Obama round 2? I'm afraid to check the DoJ for rules on this issue, because I don't want to be on their radar. It's pretty scary out here concerning gun-anything. People have become "Persons of Interest" here after mere emails involving any illicit activity, regardless of whom the email conversation was with. Anxious to find out about this--may have the opportunity to purchase an FNH, but I want to know what I'm getting myself into, first. Thanx for any help on this topic.

Go to the library or some internet cafe thing & use their computers.

As far as I know, all the ammo that was legal is still legal for the 5.7x28 but you might want to wait for someone else to chime in on that. I don't follow PRK's laws that often.

my understanding from a guy i just dealt with in Santa Monica was it has to be lead free and don't qoute me but i think has to be ball not hollow point. sorry thought you were talking bout ammo.

As a fellow inmate of the great state of Kommiefornia (more like a state of mind, really) I just have to :facepalm:

Seriously.

We do have a ridiculous law on the books about using "non-toxic" ammunition for hunting in the "Condor zone" (which happens to cover most of the state, imagine that). However, this ONLY applies to hunting. Self-defense and target ammo - in fact ANY ammo used for ANYTHING other than hunting - can be as toxic as you can stand. The only other onerous thing to watch out for is tracers - no tracers of any kind because they apparently catch entire litters of kittens on fire whenever they're shot out of Evil Black Rifles (ESPECIALLY when shot out of Evil Black Rifles). There is also a dangerously vague law against AP pistol ammunition. This rules out SS190, but otherwise all other non-tracer 5.7 ammo is fine in Kommiefornia.

There have been attempts by certain localities (San Frandorko, in particular) to ban hollowpoint ammo but that's been derailed in the courts. Once in a while you'll see some minor localized (not state-wide) restrictions. Those usually get shot down in the courts eventually, but the fools that perpetrate these legal atrocities keeping migrating around from office to office so you never know when more of this garbage will spring up.

Having said all that, when all is said and done it's really not that bad here. Compare us to New Jersey or New York or any of a number of jurisdictions out there across the country and we almost look like paradise. And the notion that you'll get on some "list" just because you looked up some code at the DOJ's site? I'd laugh, really hard, if it weren't for the fact that I know you seriously believe this. Take a deep breath and remove (or at the very least loosen) that tinfoil hat. The DOJ does NOT care what you look at on their site. They DO NOT have the resources to track you. Even if they did, at most all they'd have on you is that you are intensely interested in the law and regulations surrounding firearms in California. There's nothing wrong with that (yet) so surf proudly!

Of coarse they are or at least close to what it used to be.
If I jumped on that then we would have to charge at least $105.00 for our ammo
It's amazing even with the little bit we have been able to score we are not getting ridiculous with our prices. We could but that would be just wrong.
