I would have a hard time duplicating my 3" 5 shot group at 50 yards using slugs without sights on my Mossy.

I wouldn't exactly call my 20" 590A1 (which I shot the group with) a hunting gun. I definitely see the value of a set of ghost ring sights, even if shooting buckshot. I can center all 9 pellets of 00 buck in a 12" circle at 25 yards when I use the sights.

Too each their own. I can do that without ghost sights at 25 yards. just need standard bb sight. Either way, my SD shotguns are for just that, SD, and need no sights to complicate things. Just point and shoot. I carried a shortie in Iraq, and it was for SHTF situation close quarter. In those situations, buck shot will shoot a wide enough swath to not worry about sights.

Again, it looks cool, but for me, it has no function to put all that on it. Now a slug gun, hunting shottie, or evenM4, or another carbine, I can see the use in all the tacticool accessories and I have utilized them myself. But never with a SD shottie. Just me.

^+1. i used the 1014 in afghan. nothing tacticool about it. but never felt safer going through a door with it. point and shoot. thats it. I'd like to see you take the time to center anything anywhere when shit's going down.

I'm pretty sure I would just point and shoot under stress. Do you spend the time to line up your "bead?" I can't say I've ever been in an actual shootout (thank God), so who knows, maybe I'd try lining them up while a bad guy empties a clip into my a$$.

I would rather have the sights. I can hit a bad guy, or a deer, at well past 100 yards with a slug, and it will still "point" up close. I have practiced quite a bit with my Mossy and can line the ghost ring sights up as fast as I could sight down the barrel using a bead. I have had Mossbergs with both types of sights and I prefer the GRs.

I have also shot in a police competition that had a shotgun course. You had to knock down a bunch of heavy steel targets at different ranges using 00 buckshot. If you did not hit them perfectly square, they would not go down. I used my Mossy with GR sights and scored a perfect score (one shot each target), and did it very quickly. I certainly don't feel like the GR sights slow me down any.

Here's my 500 with ghost ring kit. I wish I could shoot it more but the range only allows slugs
