Ruger 10/22

Post by f3rr37 » 10 Apr 2009, 23:34

So this past week I've been stripping my Ruger 10/22 receiver. The nasty non-glossy paint that they painted it with sucks imo. So I stripped it off and sanded it down with some 320, 600, 1500 grit sand paper and then polished it slightly with my Dremel.

I'm thinking about painting it either a candy dark green color or candy purple. Then the stock that I'm planning on getting is going to be the opposite of whatever color I choose for the receiver. Probably going to go with a Green Mountain 16" fluted/threaded SS barrel and might paint it the same color as the receiver, not sure about painting it thought.

Here are a few pics of it:

Yes I missed a couple of spots just inside the ejection port, I'll clean those up before I paint it.

Not a mirror finish, and I'll probably ruff it up a bit before painting. Mainly just wanted to see if I could get a nice polished look.

Here's the stock I'm looking at getting:

Probably going to get it in this color:

Or I might just get a plain one and paint over it in a candy color like the receiver.

Eh, I dunno, I just messed around with the stock, barrel, and my receiver in photoshop and it just doesn't look right. I'll need to find a different color scheme.

Did you take the paint off the inside of the receiver as well?

Thanks! Yes, I stripped off the paint from the inside, I tried polishing it up a bit, but I didn't spend too much time on it, just enough to smooth out the surfaces that the bolt slide across.

What sort of paint are you using?

Can't go wrong with that Green Mountain barrel either, they rock.

Yep I just put togather the same thing with a threaded, fluted barrel it looks pretty good with that grey paint. I was ready to sand it off also till I put it togather and saw they matched in color. My stock is grey and black pepper by Boyds. Waitn on ATF for that suppressor that goes on the end of it.

Hmm... I wonder if I could use this:

On the receiver to make it have a chrome/mirror looking finish. And then just clear coat it with a non-yellowing clear coat.
