Aimpoint Micro T1 2 MOA or 4 MOA Dot?

I want to purchase an Aimpoint Micro T1, but I have never even seen one in person. I have no idea which dot would be better for a Colt 6920 AR-15 that has been modified to fit in a briefcase.

What opinions have you?

What is your application?

A briefcase carbine is probably for close-range use (work, if you're tacticool), I'm assuming? :p

The T1 is a very good sight, and has a small footprint, for your concealed needs/briefcase fit.

I always opt for the smaller MOA reticle/dot. The majority of regular shooters I meet like the ease of use with bigger dots like the 4MOA. 4MOA isn't very big, relatively.

I would prefer the 2 MOA in most applications, but if I'm engaging 2-legged animals under 150 yards, then I'd go with the 4 MOA.

Usually, I'd recommend trying it out to see if it is right for you; but in this case, there is nothing weird or special about the sight. It's a good sight that works, with a dot in the middle. Just make sure you get the right mount that is the cheek weld offset that works for you, and you're gtg. If you're out and about in sunny places, get a killflash. I use Aimpoints with killflashes, and it's fine.

Hope that helps, Mike.

The rifle is set up so I can take it on trips (in the car). It is for defensive purposes, so I would expect it would probably not ever be used at ranges past 200 yards. Hopefully, I never have to use it for anything but target practice. This is the setup I have:

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/prod ... +WITH+CASE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As you can see, the optical sight is the only sight it will have, so I need to depend on it.

Is the 2 MOA dot easy to pick up fast? I have a Trijicon RMR with a 3.25 MOA dot on my Benelli M4 and I really like that. I thought I would give Aimpoint a try this time. I have never owned an Aimpoint product before.

This is the mount I was thinking of getting:

http://www.brownells.com/optics-mountin ... 31683.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would also buy the spacer shown to get it to the right height.

You can always make the 2moa dot look bigger by turning it up a setting or 2. You cannot make a 4moa look smaller by turning it down. 2moa wins imho.

200 yds and under, get the 4 MOA.

The Aimpoint is more robust than the EOTech. I have left EOTechs on and they have killed the battery. I have left Aimpoints on for weeks.

That is a neat setup.

Be sure to practice assembling it in the dark. One handed, if possible. No sarcasm font.

My PS90 occasionally wears the Aimpoint H-1 in the ARMS throw-lever mount. It is a very nice combination. The sight and mount are bomb (and idiot) proof. I haven't fired it at ranges longer than 100 yds. It is quite adequate. You might look at mountsplus.com as well as Brownells for the mount and spacer.

I have a couple of EOTechs as well. I was looking for something more compact for this setup.

If I were to get the 2 MOA, does cranking up the brightness "fatten up" the dot? I saw that suggestion above as well. For speed, I think the 4 MOA would be better, but if I can get the same "effect" by cranking up the brightness on the 2 MOA, it might give it more versatility and better ability for precise shots if needed.

You won't be messing with your brightness knob when you are engaging threats. You'll set it at one level (medium of the road intensity) that will cover most ambient light/practical light levels and environments, and leave the dot on at all times. You will want to stock an extra case of batteries in the case. They last a very long time in the T1, but always be prepared.

Get the 4MOA. At top brightness, the 2MOA is about 3 MOA. However, you do not want to rely on this. Indoor engagement and lowlight with low output WMLs will require a lower setting on your T1 intensity knob. A bright dot will kill your focus on the target in low ambient/practical light.

That is if you want to use a carbine for indoors. I wouldn't. "Carbine guys" like doing so.

Unless it's a giant warehouse with high visibility, and few corners.

Hope that helps!

I agree with this except EOtechs have an auto off feature. If you turn it on with the "up" button, it will auto shut off after 8 hrs. Turning it on with the "down" button will auto shut off after 4 hrs. As far as I know, you can't disable the auto off feature.

I have left my Aimpoint T1 on since I bought it almost 2 yrs ago. Battery is still going strong.

Well, price made up my mind for me. I got a package deal on an H1 2 MOA with mounts for $499.

The T1 was considerably more and I had to buy the mounts separately.

I got my H1 today. That is a really neat sight. I am impressed with it so far. I like it so much, I am considering buying another one (or two) for my shotguns.

Also, Botach changed the link above. I got the 2 MOA H1, the low profile mount, and a spacer block that is no longer shown for $499. This is the spacer the above package came with when I purchased it:

The whole setup looks like this:

Nice.

I'm torn between a T1 2MOA or a TA33HG for my MK18 whenever it gets outta jail.

I just ordered a 4 MOA T-1 for my Benelli M4 shotgun. I am taking the Trijicon RMR off of it. I need a sight that works in all weather conditions on my shotgun. I also got the LRP quick release lever so I can take it off quickly and switch to the ghost ring sights if needed. That setup makes sense to me.

I looked at the Micro T1 for my SCAR 16 at one point...and went with a Comp 4S and a 3X magnifier set up ...granted a carbine is a vastly different situation, but the T1 is a hell of an optic in a very small package. I would add that rather than spending the $$ for a shotgun, I am running a Burris Fastfire III on a Benelli M3 and it has performed wonderfully.
