.45 ACP, .40 FN, or .44???

Post by kevinito » 24 Feb 2009, 05:39

I have a quick decision to make. After my purchase of the 5.7 (which I thoroughly enjoy), I am in the market for a new handgun. I am looking at the Taurus Judge, the .40 FN, and the .44 Magnum Desert Eagle.

I am primarily looking at stopping power, efficiency, and quality.

Suggestions? Opinions?

Stopping power for what? Bears or BG's? .44 DE is kinda hard to conceal isn't it?
I don't own a .40 but I do have a Sig .45ACP - the only "complaint" I have about it is the capacity. I've been spoiled by my FsN :D If a situation ever arose that I had to scrounge for ammo (SHTF/zombies), .45 is still a common enough round that I am pretty sure I can find it somewhere. But it definitely has stopping power. Go with the .45 :thumb:

Depends on what you want to stop. The Judge really kills paper well... The Des Eag is slow to reaquire target but delivers the one first big punch. The 40 is a super hyped but over-rated round Madison Avenue sold to many agencies. The 45 is a can't go wrong unles the jerk's vested.

I just handled a .44 mag DE yesterday for giggles, not many people would mess with you if your pointing that at em, that being said unless your one big fella its not exactly easy to wield.

I'd say either a .40 or a .45. Nothing wrong with a .40 BTW :P

I am really satisfied with my FNP-40. I at times carry a Colt .45 Defender. I have to say I like the FNP-40's capacity vs the Defender which makes it my choice for more regular carry.
The DE are nice but just too much gun to comfortably conceal.
For the money you get a lot of gun with the FNP.

NOt a fan of 40s, never have been. I would say a 45 is great round, tons of options just within that caliber.

I'd go with .45ACP. But that's just me. Shoot them all if you can.

I have the FNP40. If I had it all to do over again, I'd get the FNP45.

Get the FNP45. You won't regret it.

LOL!, You need to be around 8' tall and weight about 300 in order to conceal that puppy. Not to mention it weights about 4.5 lbs.

I like the Steyr M40-A1, CDNN has them for $350ish. Needs some break in time and definitely some practice with the sights, but it is a very nice gun for the money. Triggers are very nice, the kind of 5lb trigger job you would have to pay for on another pistol. Also love the grip angle, my uncles glock 17 9mm feels like it kicks more than my Steyr 40.
