Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
Well I will just have to find me a pf9 online and have it shipped to my dealer. He said it would be awhile before they got any in.

I have only shot the p22 a few times and ice enjoyed it, never had any firing problems. Are they reliable? That is the biggest need here for me. Accuracy I don't care all that much about since it will be very close range.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

Google p22 cracked slide. They are made of crap metal and not built to last.fzr confused wrote:I have only shot the p22 a few times and ice enjoyed it, never had any firing problems. Well, on a serious note, you could look at the Charter Arms revolver in 9mm.

Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
well last night i went to gander and was looking around. i just about bought a north american arms 22mag, but ended up picking up the lc9. they had a pretty good deal on it, i got it and a box of ammo out the door for just under 400. i feel that is a fair price seeing as online was just about that much plus shipping and ffl transfer fees. i would have preferred the pf9, but i can pick that up later if i dont like this one.

I've been asked the same question you asked on this forum, and now those askers are searching for PF9's in Texas.
I would have recommended the Ruger as a 2nd. But it has a manual safety.

Yea, the safety will never (intentionally) be used.
The pf9 does look a lot nicer in a "it won't slip out of my hand" kinda way.

You went shooting with Vanilla Ice? I thought he had a "9."fzr confused wrote:I have only shot the p22 a few times and ice enjoyed it, never had any firing problems. Are they reliable? That is the biggest need here for me. Accuracy I don't care all that much about since it will be very close range.

FWIW, I have had nothing but great experiences with P22. Feeds as much ammo as MkII does. No problems with wear. My sister has one, I own one, my dad has one.

If you don't care at all about accuracy; I'd recommend the P22. It is not picky on ammo, the trigger is fun, as is shooting the gun, because the ergos are really awesome.fzr confused wrote:I have only shot the p22 a few times and ice enjoyed it, never had any firing problems. It loads just like a 9mm, and the only difference is the mag release, which isn't an issue.
If they came out with an aftermarket or factory fix to the accuracy, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

Polymer witness compact in 10mm would take care of them. They don't cost much more then the 22lr listed.

I have to agree with this statement. About 5,000 rounds through mine and not a single issue. Super fun to shoot and not too bad on the accuracy.flyingirish04 wrote:FWIW, I have had nothing but great experiences with P22. Feeds as much ammo as MkII does. No problems with wear. Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
jay, while i LOVE my EAA and will gladly buy more, it did not fit this intention due to weight and size. i needed a small gun to fit in my pocket for late night "quick the dog is about to sh*t on the floor" moments. not ordinary carry where i can have it on my hip.

Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
The witness compact is small. I would not consider it a hip gun. I have carried mine as a back up. Also the CZ RAMI in 9mm/40S&W are what I would consider a pocket gun.
I am a big guy but I have very small hands and very short fingers. My RAMI drops into my front pocket no issues. Witness poly compact is not much larger.

Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
The witness poly on the EAA site says it is 11oz heavier unloaded (almost double), an inch longer, and a half inch wider. I carry my warthog (24oz) in my pocket all the time, but when I am wearing a belt, not so much in basketball shorts, I like to keep my pants above my @$$ lol
Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
:agree: but if you can't find one... a sig 238 is a great pocket pistol... (I really want one of those 938's)srt-4_jon wrote:sig 938
The Ruger SR22 is also a sweet piece... I use it as my snake gun for when I go putting around the swamp. It's fun to paddle up to them sunning on a branch and pop them off with it. Unlike the Walther... it's not picky on ammo. It eats anything you feed it and it's a fairly cheap gun.
Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
Sig P938! Carry "cocked and locked". Pocket sized and I can actually hit a 6" circle at 10 yards with iron sights. For me, that is good shooting. Load up with Hornady "Critcal Defense" and the zombies ain't got a chance. Its not mine yet but I am saving my shekels.
My bud is retired green beret and normally will not talk about guns, shooting or Vietnam but the P938 is his carry gun. Funny, the gun store commandos talk your ear off.

Re: Pocket handgun for coyotes?
IMHO:
Ruger LCR .22 magnum with Crimson Trace.
Load it with .22 magnum hollow points.
CT laser is good for night shooting. Zero CT laser at 25 yards.
The .22 mag has a flat trajectory and can reach out far.
It can hurt 2-legged "coyotes" also because it has better penetration than .22 LR, if that's a concern.
Revolver with .22 mag is more reliable than semi-auto with .22 LR.
Practice shooting at moving objects. The coyotes will not stand still like a paper target.
