sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
Comments please.
what do you like
the sig mosquito, 1911 with .22 slide, glock with .22 slide, buckmark, or ruger MKII?
I was loving the mosquito because of the similiarities of a p226, but I always felt that the ruger MKII was a classic that everyone should have in their collection.
Do you guys have any comments for the mosquito pistol?

Sig makes fine guns, I have a buckmark and like it.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
Generally the sig is high end. Even their 1911's are top notch. but...
their sig556 is crap to me because there is an incessant rattle, or play between the upper and lower assembles. Around where the pin is. At least on an ar-15 you can use an accuwedge to remedy the problem.
How is the take down on the buckmark, is it a *itch like the MKII ruger?

Them's fightin words! Eh, to each his own.their sig556 is crap
Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
NOt crap wolly, but rather annoying. I went to a gunshow and handled every sig556 I could fight. All of them had that problem.
That was my only pet peeve, other than that the TRIGGER was awesome and the gun more reliable than my gritty ar-15 that I never clean.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I agree with the accuwedge thing. I bought one of them for one of my ARs and it really tightens things up.
Though for full disclosure my sig 556 closes pretty tight. Its a SWAT, but I don't think that really makes a difference.
Either way it goes, I sure do love piston guns Which means I have to try out the new para ordnance carbine.
But for the original topic: I have fired the sig mosquito and really like it. Nothing wrong with 1911 conversions, but when you think about it it is still a 1911 that shoots .22s. So why have the weight, frame, etc, when you can buy a pistol purpose built for the rimfire?

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I like my Sig Mosquito. I snagged one with a threaded barrel for $350. I also picked up a threaded barrel adaptor to go to 1/2x28 in order to mount an SWR Spectre. Two things kinda annoy me, which is 1) 10-round max, and 2) Can not remove the slide with the thread adaptor mounted. Otherwise, it seems fairly stout.

It's pretty easy to take down, but I have only done it a few times.stg2ahn wrote:

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I don't like the Mosquito. I have several Sigs, and agree that they are great guns, but the trigger on the Mosquito is unbearably bad IMHO.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I had a Mosquito and I don't know what it's issue was, but regardless of which spring I used in it, it would hang up about every 5 shots. I tried all sorts of different brands of ,22lr trying to find what it liked to eat and came up with nothing that would work. I ended up unloading it on the cheap with full disclosure of my experience and bought a Walther P22. I liked the look and feel of the Sig in my hands better, but the P22 has not had a hiccup yet through thousands of rounds.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
My wife and I went to a gun show a couple of weeks ago, and to my surprise, she picked a mosquito in desert digital camo. It came with three 10 round mags and a fake suppressor. I thought the fake can was a bit of a stretch, but she really liked the gun. :thumb: But we have put 400 round through it and have not had any problems. We shot CCI mini-mags and American Eagle H.P. Not a bad gun for the money.
Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I have a little mosquito and I really like it! Its a fairly accurate weapon and makes a great plinker! It doesn't really care for the cheap walmart ammo sometimes but all in all, i have been fairly pleased with it.
Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I bought a Mosquito last Christmas for my son (now thirteen) to shoot. I do not like the trigger but it is a good beginner gun for my son. I have shot it some but it is way too small for my hands. I don’t like 1911’s for the same reason but the Mosquito makes a 1911 look huge.
It doesn’t like the Wallymart stuff but it gives him great practice at Tap, Rack, Bang. I really hate the take down lever. I need to use a bench or some other object to rotate it. If I try to use my fingers, all that happens is a loss of feeling in my finger tip.

First post
I love my Sigs. I bought a little bug but there are two things I really do not like about it. One is the trigger. It absolutely has a different feel to it than any of the P2xx series. Its supposed to give the same feel as the larger caliber cousins and it doesn't. That said once I got used to the trigger it shot great.
Second. I bought mine new. It only came with on magazine. That's irritating when you think how much money your spending on it relative to other .22s. And given that new magazines are around $40-$50.
If I were to do it again I would choose something else.
I'm thinking of trying to find one of the now discontinued Trailsides.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
My first mosquito was a jamming machine until i found out that you have to break them in with 3-400 rds of CCI mini mag, I did just that and now it gobbles everything. after breaking in the second one, same thing happened, I now have two fully reliable mosquitoes with 5 mags each. The trigger pull on both shed 1.5 lbs after 1000 rds or so.
They are picky as to which ammo they prefer so test a lot of different types and stock up on the more accurate ones.
hope this helps.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
*slightly off topic* anyone know of an accuwedge type dealy or "snugger" fitting pin for a contender?
Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I want to know why .22lr pistols only come with 10 round mags. Is that leftovers from the ban, or is there something preventing having 25-35 round pistol mags in .22 caliber?
Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I think everyone made 10rd mags after the ban. And have just kept it that way since.
Aftermarket folks have jumped on the opportunity though.

You'll notice that they're all single-stacked too.
It's mostly a limitation of the rimmed case and what reliable magazines wind up looking like as the capacity goes up. (Visualize long bananas.)
Except there were the Grendels...

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
This is true of many different guns. I have a Sig/Hammerli Trailside that was one picky pistol when I first bought it. Now it will even feed the cheap crap in the 525 round bulk packs (don't buy the Remington crap though because 1 out of every 10 is a dud).herstal wrote:My first mosquito was a jamming machine until i found out that you have to break them in with 3-400 rds of CCI mini mag
I initially looked at the Sig Mosquito, but I could not get past the plastic sights. I bought the Trailside instead. I almost bought a S&W model 41, but they just cost too damn much.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
Three of my friends bought the Mosquito and they all told me that it was finicky on ammo, at first. Apparently after it got broke in, it became a lot of fun to shoot.
Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
Mosquito's like high velocity ammo. If you stick with it they will do fine. But, you can't go wrong with a Ruger Mark III or 22/45. They will eat any ammo. very accurate, and can mount red dots or anything else on them, and you can get the one with fluted bull barrel for about $400. Awesome gun. If you wanted something a little bigger, go with the Ruger Charger. It's got the 10/22 action that has been more than proven. Comes with bipod and a sweet stock and like the 10/22 has many accessories. Thinking of getting one with the integral suppressor.

Another wicked .22 is the Beretta 87 Target. Super, super accurate and looks very good I think. But, you will pay about $600 for it.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
My Mosquito will shoot anything I put in it, which has been:
Remington Bulk
Remington Subsonic
CCI Minimag
Have no issues... Even more fun with a SWR Spectre attached to it.

Re: sig Mosquito any good? how about conversions
I picked up a mosquito the other day. I got a decent deal so I couldn't turn it away. I fed it 50rds of mini mags at the range Saturday without a hiccup.
