So they actually did it. Used a proprietary magazine. WTH??? I loved the idea of this rifle on introduction and I got an email saying the heavy barrel was in stock and ready to ship this morning. I think the mag issues is going to make me take a pass on this one.

I just wish the gun used ar-15 compatible grips. The pistol grip doesn't look to ergonomic and the options for the stock seem limited as well

What kind of mags do they use anyways? Fal? ar-10? m14?

From what we can tell they're proprietary, meaning none of those, something FNH made up.

Seems like the ultimate rifle without a home or niche.

It doesnt have the chamber or barrel length for Palma shooting, but some of the 308 side matches would be fun with this. Nothing a well built AR10, FAL or even HK91 couldn't handle.

WHY WHY WHY not use AR10 or DPMS mags??? M14 mags have the dumbass rock and lock. From what I am told one of the few reasons the M1A is still losing popularity even with the navy shooters in the sandbox. Mag changes are slow and easy to f up.

I actually prefer the rock and lock because there is a positive "clicK" and you know it is ready to go.

On an AR platform you still tap the bottom of the mag after inserting it, at least I do, for a positive lock up.
You don't have to do that on an ak or m1a. But I think the M1a/m14 is harder to do than the ak mags. The tab that sticks out is quite small on the m14 mag, while the aks' is much longer.

It it used the ar-10 mags the gun would have been 10x more attractive.

Yeah, but you get used to changing those M1A/M14 mags pretty quick. And having another platform would only make that better.

For a sniping or benchrest platform, I would think a rock and lock would also be more user friendly because you don't have to lift or tilt the gun up to reload.

The price of the magazines is a definite negative...but I'm sort of used to howling in pain when buying magazines for a Sako TRG....Holy cow, dealer price is $140.00 for a 10 round mag, so at "only" $80-$90 for a 20 rounder, I feel like these magazines are much cheaper than the Sako magazines.

I sure would prefer the M14, or the FN mags though. Good 20 round mags for $20-40 each sure would be nice. I wonder if someone will come up with an aftermarket way to mount those mags onto the FN-AR.

My initial guess is that the rock and lock mags from the M14 would be easiest to adapt. Just a pin in front, and a latch lever in back. The FN mag would take a bit more engineering.

I could just ship an FN mag off to my old girlfriend in Taiwan :laugh:

I love the gun but not all the stuff locked into FN like the stocks mags ect I do love the browning BAR this one came from. They also have that Winchester just like this but in camo.

Same issue with the SCAR 17's, tracking down mags is a pain in the ass! I'll keep my M1A, mags are abundandt and weapon is just as accurate if not more.
