Polar bear attacks woman at Berlin Zoo

BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- A polar bear attacked a woman at Berlin Zoo Friday afternoon after she climbed a fence and jumped into its habitat during feeding time, police said Saturday.

One adult polar bit her several times after she plunged into the moat, police said.

Zoo workers tossed rescue rings toward the woman to hoist her out and distract polar bears swimming nearby, said Goerg Gebhard, a Berlin police officer.

"They saved her life," Gebhard told CNN.

The woman was severely injured and was being treated at a hospital, police said.

It's unclear why the woman entered the bear habitat, but police issued her a citation for trespassing.

I have hidden in a dryer before when I was younger. Even went for a ride by keeping the door open and pressing the door closed button with my finger, while my buddy started the dryer. It didn't get much speed before I lost my grip on the door button, so I only did a couple revolutions. Like a poor mans roller coaster, it was scary but it was fun. I wasn't hurt, I knew what I was doing and braced myself on all sides before starting it. Kinda hard to dismount though, I ended up tangled up with myself, and there is a very specific way you have to enter/exit a dryer when your over 6" tall. Only did it once, wouldn't do it again.

I rip the tags off of mattresses :p

A Florida man mistook his girlfriend for a hog, shooting her (AP/Mike Groll)

A Florida couple was on a weekend camping trip that ended in an airlift to the emergency room.

52-year-old Steven Egan was hunting with his girlfriend Lisa Simmons in the northern part of the state when he mistook her for a hog and shot her.

"He saw a hog and thought he shot it and went to look for it," Maj. Steve Clair of the Flagler County Sheriff's Office told ABC News. "He heard her and thought it was a hog and just shot."

The mistake was not actually related to her appearance. Rather, Egan had earlier shot at a hog that continued to evade him. He reportedly instructed Simmons to stay at their campsite while he pursued the evasive animal, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office However, Simmons ventured away from the campsite, apparently searching for oranges that had fallen from nearby trees.

When Egan heard rustling in the woods, he fired in her direction without first making visual confirmation with his intended target. Instead, Simmons was struck in the legs by a .30-caliber bullet from Egan's gun. She was airlifted to the nearby Halifax Health Medical Center where she is listed as being in serious condition.

Authorities say they aren't planning to charge Egan for the accidental shooting.

"He was very sympathetic that he'd shot his girlfriend," Maj. Clair said. "It was an accident. I think it was just a violation of one of the cardinal rules of hunting which is you never shoot what you don't see."

If it were my kid, I would recommend baby-sitter & her male friend turn themselves in to police & plead guilty for whatever gets them the longest sentence. Guarantee they'd be better off than staying on the outside

Idiots exist and they are ALL OVER friggin Craigslist.
I made the mistake of putting the 442 on there to try to trade it for a crewcab pickup.
Some of the idiots that have crawled out of the friggin woodwork...amazes me.
I've had some tell me that the mileage couldn't POSSIBLY be original since the car is 40 years old.
I've had others tell me that Olds didn't have a 350 engine that it had to be a freakin Chevy engine...
Others have told me that 442's only came with 400 cu in or bigger...even after I sent them to the 442 webpage that showed that in 1972 they came with 350 2bbl, 350 4bbl and 455 4bbl options.
Others have told me that it isn't an Olds that it's a Buick and that I'm too stupid to tell the difference.
Then there are the guys who offer $1,500 for it after I've told them that we've got over $17K invested in the car...
Where do these people COME FROM?!?!?
Oh, and the people who can't READ! You say in the ad, no, I don't want or need a boat or bike, thanks anyway, and guess what they offer you?
I give up. I just give up.
I think I'll insure it for $50K and let my 20 somethings drive it. I'll never see it again unless it's wrapped around a telephone pole then the insurance can own it... :wall:

LARGO, Florida - A Largo teen has died from his injuries after shooting himself while playing Russian Roulette.

Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives say 17-year-old Thorin Montgomery and three teenaged friends were on the back porch of his house along 111th Way North in Largo Friday night, playing with a .38 caliber revolver.

Thorin was the first of his friends to have a turn when the gun fired, shooting him in the head.

He was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center where he later died.

A neighbor, who doesn't want to be identified, told 10 News he saw an ambulance arrive at the house and then neighbors started running toward there as well. He describes the scene as "crazy." He says he's surprised to hear the teens were playing such a dangerous game.

"I'm shocked to find out they're stupid enough to play that game," said the neighbor. "Kids nowadays, with them playing with guns the way they do, there's no reason for that."

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives will not say right now where the teens got the gun.

I wonder if the other two kids reloaded it and then took their turns. That is the least they can do all things considered.
