Re: Martial Law
So my question is, what are they going to do about it? Re-elect the same idiots again? Many residents in the area have openly expressed being surprised by the "overreaction," seeing the executive orders as completely unnecessary, considering New England and surrounding areas are used to seeing snow storms of similar magnitudes almost every season.

I wonder how long military rule will last in New England? It seems pretty extreme for the military to impose martial law just because of a blizzard. Does anyone know what General the Joint Chiefs of Staff put in charge up there?

Re: Martial Law
maybe it's a dry run to see how much overreach the citizenry will tolerate? but this is no surprise. Holding American citizens without trial or any kind of due process indefinitely is now legal. as well as the legal justification of presidential assassination of American citizens on u.s territory suspected of aiding or terrorist tires. welcome to the police state. hey don't blame me, i voted for Garry Jonson :p

Re: Martial Law
Here in RI they were just trying to keep the idiots off the road during the storm. I didnt hear of anyone getting locked up or fined for driving in it. And shortly after the storm most of the roads were clear, except for side streets. Everyone that remembers the blizzard of 78 doesnt want to get stuck in their car on the highway for days because they were the ones blocking the highways making it impossible for the plows to do their thing.

Re: Martial Law
That sounds more like a state of emergency, which is understandable, but several sites are claiming it was martial law. One doesn't mean the other.
I've been looking on the web & so far, the martial law stories are carried by news agencies that I haven't really heard of.
Not that any of them can really be trusted anyway since, like Chris said, they tend to hype & spin things.

Re: Martial Law
That's our point. Martial law is a major over-reaction.

Re: Martial Law
The term "Martial Law" will not be used due to Supreme Court decisions. Restricting the movement of law abiding citizens is wrong whatever you want to call it.

News media and financial systems are EXCEPTIONS? :skep:
The only exceptions, according to R.I.'s WPRI, are the news media, public safety vehicles and public works vehicles and workers that includes contract personnel, government officials on official business, utility company vehicles and workers, health care workers who travel to and from work in order to provide essential health services, travel necessary to maintain and deliver critical private sector services such as energy, fuel supplies, financial systems and critical commodities and travel to support business operations that provide critical services to the public, including gas stations, food stores and hardware stores.

Re: Martial Law
I can't say for certain what "financial systems" may cover & it may be something important so while I don't see why it would be vital, I can't bash too much on that.
However, I completely agree with the news media part being BS. I thought I wrote something to that effect earlier, guess I missed it.
What makes the news media a) vital & b) more qualified than Joe Citizen to be out in that mess? Last I checked, they didn't need any kind of special certification to drive a news van :skep:
