I hope you didn't give the left-over foam to any kids. Wouldn't want them suspended from school!

Jay got 3 out of 5

& the foam went in the garbage. From there, I don't know where it went - maybe it was used in a robbery somewhere? Just glad they can't pull my fingerprints off of that material. :D

That's some incredible upper strength, she may be a real-life terminator!

Someone should put her together with the girl in the "first pitch" video... I'll bet they could choreograph quite the show.

That little gal in the first pitch was gorgeous.
This other is just plain outrageous. I knew that 'pole dancing' was becoming a big hit in the whole fitness scene, and really, in a lot of ways is just another form of gymnastics. Give it another decade and it will be an Olympic sport...

There was another vid of a Japanese actress throwing a pitch. Better "form" but this girl gets more points for style and her throw actually making it to the plate :agree:

From an article about potential future exoskeleton uses:
Researchers have already demonstrated several similar technologies. This week, an exoskeleton designed to assist disabled people climb stairs and help themselves out of chairs passed safety tests in Germany, opening the possibility that it may be sold soon in Europe. Made by Japanese company Cyberdyne, the Hybrid Assisted Limb or HAL system is already being tested in hospitals.

Ok mad scientists, here's a question for you:

Does it take more force to submerge a golf ball or a ping pong ball in mercury?

Back in the 70's, my parents bought a house that had been built in the late 50's. It was a pretty big house, and it had all mercury light switches. Dad remodeled the house and replaced them all. I cracked every one of them open and got the mercury out. Not as much as that guy had in video, but quite a bit. We had a blast playing with that stuff until eventually it all just went away, as kids things do. We tried freezing it, and chasing it around the cookie sheets. Never had gloves or anything. It's amazing I'm not dead or sick from it. Actually, with hindsight, that could explain a lot of things. :)

Starbuck's no longer wants guns in their stores
http://news.yahoo.com/starbucks-guns-in ... 15379.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They aren't banning them but they are officially requesting customers don't carry - at least not openly.

In a way, I can see their point. They've been put in the spotlight & made an example of on both sides of the gun debate. They didn't want to be there, they just deferred to local laws.

I just hope they don't put those stupid gun spree zone signs up.

Bringing AR15's and shotguns into Starbucks with magazines inserted is idiotic and very irresponsible. It makes people perceive gun owners like fools.

Conversely, just because you don't, doesn't mean you shouldn't :)

There are many different ways to expose people to law abiding, upstanding people with guns. The best response in any vaguely diplomatic encounter isn't to be as in-your-face as possible (which is what some of the OC guys do...particularly with the staged Starbucks events).
The other side of the coin is that if people are never actually exposed to appropriate/calm gun owners, then there is a good chance they will believe the anti-gun rhetoric that is espoused in most of media.

Much like any fear of the unknown, one of the best ways to treat it is with a slow inoculation. You don't start out with everything at once. You slowly over months, years, or decades keep pushing the envelope just a little.
This is also basically the way guns were removed from everyday society. Each generation was pushed a little further from them until it was no longer considered socially acceptable to simply have one on your hip or in your truck. With that social shift came laws to reinforce the fears by ensuring that the guns stayed out of sight. It's only been in the last decade or so that it seems folks are starting to realize just how far the envelope has been pushed and they have started to push back. Open carry and concealed carry have made a HUGE comeback in nearly every state.
That didn't happen by people just sitting back and not becoming involved. It happened because some people decided that it was worth the inconvenience, the ridicule, the embarrassment, and sometimes being arrested (in order to have an appropriate case that could be addressed by the Supreme Court).

I have personally been lambasted by a couple of the CC crowd when I brought up the fact that I've OC'd while accompanied by my young boys as we went out to get some ice cream cones on a hot summer day.
Statements like "well that was dumb" and "just think what might have happened if someone screamed or got in your face about it, or if a Cop had shown up and cuffed you in front of your sons...or worse" show the exact same kind of fear (just on the opposite side of the coin) that needs to be slowly worn down.

In response to rash judgements, I made the statement that in any event I would hope it would serve as a learning experience for my sons on how a man should handle himself when presented with people of different opinions who may or may not be friendly. Honestly, where else are kids going to learn how to act like adults in tough situations, if they have no one to watch. TV doesn't show it, schools rarely have it (they have forfeited their maturity and their ability to make sound judgements in favor of "Zero Tolerance" policies).

Do I hope for a confrontation and have a camera handy just so I can youtube it for ratings or get some wannabe superhero thrill? Nope.
Do I regularly OC? Nope.
Do I flagrantly OC? Nope.
Do I dress like a gang-banger or a mall-ninja when I OC? Nope.
Do I go in blind to my surroundings or strut around? Nope.
Do I go about my business in such a manner that I don't deliberately draw attention to myself? Yep.
Do I have a plan A, B, and C (and sometimes half the alphabet) in case something goes sideways? For damn sure.

Not to equate the OC guys to the founding fathers, but the final line in the Declaration of Independence does resonate in the sense that some people are willing to risk much in order to reclaim some of the lost ground. "And for the support of this Declaration with a firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor"

So to summarize my long-winded response, the immediate tactical benefits of OC generally lose to the CC arguments, but the long term social/political (and thus personal) benefits of reacclimating society at large with guns is huge. - again, done in a non-aggressive manner.

PS. Blue: what exactly would the point be of having an AR without a mag? :)
If you're gonna carry a firearm, it should either be locked and loaded or at least appear that way so as to serve as a decoy while you make a move for a hidden one that is ready to roll.

In response to Hobbes;

"Speak softly, and carry a big stick."

I don't want to get in an argument; I've given up trying to discuss things online.

You do things your way, and I will do things my way.

For me, I don't choose to carry and show others what I have. I get your point, and I appreciate that people like you express your decisions. I fully understand your point that the other side edges out our rights, slowly, methodically. I completely get it. It's not an all or nothing.

However, if you notice how lackluster the guy with the AR15 is with securing his firearm, etc. And that it is loaded; anyone can easily grab it. It's leaning against his chair, muzzle on the ground.

There are idiots, then there are idiots who own firearms. Just because some people own firearms, doesn't make them part of a group I immediately respect. I don't jump on bandwagons that easily. :thumb:

Making public statements aside, I still see absolutely no good reason to OC in this world. There are way too many BGs and crazies out there, and personally I don't need or want them to know what or even that I am carrying.

I'm not arguing, I am a realist. If you find yourself in a fair fight, then your tactics suck.

YMMV.

Yep, I agree with both of you on just about every point :)

I just thought the argument needed another side thrown in there to balance it out and present a differing perspective.

That being said, I'm a much bigger fan of CC than OC. Other than for social purposes, I typically only OC when away from civilization.

Also, +1k on the fair fight nonsense. That's a great way to get beat up or dead.

As an NRA instructor, we're taught to say gun or firearm & not call it a weapon, which took some retraining on my part  While I may not agree with their reasoning (basically, calling it a weapon gives people more reason to fear it), I do play by their rules when teaching.

Some people just have to argue.

Actually yes, at least that was somewhat entertaining.
That Rihanna vid thing is only entertaining with the sound off.

Weird part of the internet??? WTH did you google to find this little gem: "How to make you friends on the forum want to toss their cookies?"

Having said that, I watched the whole thing - it was like a train wreck that I couldn't stop looking at.

I'm glad to hear at the end that the patient will recover because I don't think that I ever will.

I opt for the pic. Mods, please delete if this is not appropriate for the public forum, but something HAS to be done!!!

I'm doing some work for the Vet Sanctuary at ISU, checking out other veteran programs online, and I found a school that IMO think is just trying too hard
UMUC - University of Maryland University College

University university college...
WTF is that?

Personally, I think they should have a degree program which is equally redundant:
Doctor doctor physician

A friend sent me one of those fail compilation vids, WTF makes people want to do that?

Seriously, why would you deliberately jump into a huge cactus, or jump groin first onto a beam, or let a "friend" drop a tire on your head from a roof?
I have never understood how people can think that stuff is fun.
I don't watch the show/movies called "Jackass" for the same reason - most of it is just not funny to me. I don't get it.

AUSA 2013: General Atomics unveils Blitzer land-based railgun
General Atomics unveiled a land-based artillery version of its Blitzer electromagnetic railgun (EMRG) at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) conference in Washington, DC, with a company official telling IHS Jane's that with adequate funding the concept could be demosntrated in "two to three years". In 2007, building upon knowledge gained under an Office of Naval Research (ONR) Innovative Naval Prototype contract, GA initiated development of the Blitzer system using internal funds

A woman kicks snow at a cat to get it away from her dog.
The woman told WJBK that she had taken the cat in after she learned that somebody had planned to shoot it, proving once again that no good deed goes unpunished.

That's a quick kitty.
The victim told WJBK that she had to go to the hospital after the attack with bite marks on her forehead and claw marks on her cheeks. The attack also led to an infection that caused her face to swell.

That would be one dead freaking kitty! But then she got what she deserved for continually kicking snow on it....

Feral house cats have little or no fear of humans. Combine that with razor sharp claws, fang and SPEED makes for a nasty package.

I have seen in the city feral alley cats attack and drive back animal control. That is why AC prefers to trap cats instead of trying to loop them like dogs.

And you thought your job is tough. This may be the most uncomfortable video I have ever watched. Hmm, I wonder what their insurance rates are?

I was going to ask if they allow you to take the express elevator down? (Base jumping) But they said "there's no quick way down" so I assume that means no.

Damn, fark that. I once climbed the escapeways of a metal mine from the 3800 level to halfway, so about 2000 vertical feet. But I had landings and wouldn't fall more than 100 feet if I slipped. I'll take a deep metal mine over that job every day of the week.

Only a hundred foot fall? Oh well in that case... no worries. Totally survivable.

Oh, wait.

Yeah, that's frakking annoying. I used to do that, but refuse to write manual checks any more. The only way mine will have the wrong year is if the banks experience a Y2K-like scenario. I hope.

Anyone know a good project book where I could learn how build LED type stuff? The more projects the better.
I found some on Amazon & Sparkfun but I don't want to waste my time/money with stuff that doesn't tell me what I want to know - which to pick, I can't afford all of them :( I also want to learn more so something with more than just those two projects would be ideal.
One project I have in mind is a pulsing LED with fade on/off where I can adjust the timing (or at least set it when I make it) and another is light ring for macro photography; I found a webpage for that project but can always use another source.

Would also be a good idea to learn the terminology
I'm trying to find stuff & am constantly doing other searches just to see what they are talking about

You can try these pages out. http://www.talkingelectronics.com/proje ... jects.html and http://www.electroschematics.com/tag/led-circuits/ I started here when I was trying to figure out how to add led running lights to my sons F150 Power Wheel.

Thanks, now I just have to sneak into the electronics lab & procure a few items  That 30 projects one looks like a good place to start.

I'm going to be practicing & cannibalizing the hell out things for a while. Think I will start not trimming things so closely for a while.

I used to have to climb microwave towers to swab all the moisture out of the guides after rednecks would use them for target practice. I was scared but what bothered me more was going to the store to buy a CASE of swabs.....Kotex.
