530 grains of British diplomacy

Post by Wollychop » 18 Jul 2011, 16:58

Since there's no section here that this really fits in, I thought I'd introduce you all to my lady friend. Her name is Bess, and she's been around the world a time or two.

She loves to go on exotic trips and has been to such far flung places as India, Africa, Spain and France, not to mention across the Americas. She loves a good argument.

And she throws some zingers.

You can see those balls next to a 5.7 for size. Helluva wallop, whether through a paper cartridge or if patched with fabric. She also works pretty damn good as an 11 gauge shotgun.

I thought a little classic black powder could spice this place up a bit. The 2nd Pattern (short land) Bess is certainly easy on the eyes, and a heckuva lot of fun. I am going to try to take a pheasant or two with her this fall, and *maybe* take her deer hunting, though that big ball would cause a helluva lot of meat damage.

I guess the British diplomacy didn't work so well for them. Beautiful gun though and best of luck with your hunts Wolly.

How so? With the Brown Bess they conquered a quarter of the world and eventually defeated Napoleon.

LOL California schoolbooks have the British Empire defeated by Xenu in the 17th century.

I was just referring to how the British lost during the revolutionary war and not their conquering of most of the world and defeating Napoleon.

I like the pic - Flintlock in foreground, SCAR in background :thumb:

I wouldn't take it deer hunting though, why would you shoot a deer with cannon ball?

I think if he's going to take it deer hunting he should dress for the era of the gun. Maybe dress up like Washinton and don a whig. Pics needed of course.

The only rifle season IL has is black powder and hunters use Bess's along with the correct period clothing.
