Rim Problems
As of late i have been having problems with the rims on my FsN brass. They seem no be bending after reloading. I assume it is a lube problem, maybe not enough (hell I dont know really just my first assumption) but anyways, has anyone else had this type of problem when reloading.

Re: Rim Problems
Got pics? You said after reloading - at what stage of the reloading? Pretty sure they aren't bending between finishing and shooting

Re: Rim Problems
Ill try to get pics this weekend. It happens after sizing, then the rim seems warped and dosent easily slide into the shell holders after words.

I am using the standard RCBS lube pad with #2 Lube (RCBS).
Re: Rim Problems
If you mean the rim is becoming flanged toward the extractor rebate then that’s a common problem. The small case head barely spans the primer drop hole so it doesn’t take a lot of force or too many reloading cycles to get it bent upward. One thing that may help a little is decapping without sizing. Then, lube ‘em up good with One Shot and size them. I sometimes take out the decapping pin and size them on stage two of the Dillon so it has a flat surface with no primer hole.
Re: Rim Problems
Is the rim warping u-shaped? You might want to check this. If so, you might want to take a look at your shell holder--they're not all created equal. Under the stress of resizing the case (where you typically flow the metal in order to move the neck 0.050" to 0.010"), great stress is placed on the rim, regardless of how much lube or which type you use. It's just the physics of the matter. Hope this info helps.
Re: Rim Problems
I would try using hornady one shot, it has worked a lot better than the lube pad for me.

OK, I ordered some hornady one shot and when i get home i will check my shell holder. I have the hornady shell holder to match my hornady die. I ussually get RCBS stuff but i could not find and RCBS die for the 5.7x28mm. I think i have and old RCBS 25acp shell holder at home so ill give that a try too. Thanks for the information. ill let you know next week if its any better.

RCBS shell holder #45 - but I can't find one in stock anywhere. Guess it will be part of my next order, whenever that may be ?:? I'm stuck using my loose fitting Lee until then. Oh well, it works - sort of...RAIDENelder wrote:OK, I ordered some hornady one shot and when i get home i will check my shell holder. I have the hornady shell holder to match my hornady die. Re: Rim Problems
I changed away from the lube pad because I seemed to get too much or too little lube. Now I use Dillon spray lube (lanolin and alcohol) and leave it on the case after sizing for a little extra slip for extraction.

Re: Rim Problems
Has anybody tried Annealing the front Neck so they won't work harden as quickly ?
I have done this with many different types of rifle cases over the years and it really helped . A good example of annealing Is the darker front of military .223 ,.308, 30.06 cases . Thanks in advance , Milton in Portland AKA Spider

But if RCBS does free shipping - my press is missing a pivot... :ponder: Will have to see what they'll charge for a new one

Re: Rim Problems
i have had similar problems with my hornady die. in my case, the die was set a bit too low and the base of the decapping pin was pressing against the flash hole and deforming the rim. trying backing out your die a bit and seeing if that relieves the problem.
