Hello, I am just getting into reloading and wanted to get some advice. I have:
RCBS dies and plates-- is there a problem with RCBS?
Hornady V max 40 gr
IMR 800X powder -- based on the Lyman load data, this should work well for the pistol
however I wanted to do loads for my AR57 so I bought
Barnes 55gr. LE/MIL .224 with flat base
What powder should I use and in what weight for 55gr.?
I also have IMR4350 powder I bought for my .243 Winchester. does anyone have laod data for IMR4350 with 55gr. .224?
thanks in advance for the advice
Kilo

Re: Getting into reloading, need advice on loads
If I remember from the other "reloading posts" RCBS is not the preffered die. I might be wrong you may wanna do a search for RCBS just sayin. and I am sure there is stuffs in the wiki and the archives.

Re: Getting into reloading, need advice on loads
Some members have reported problems with the RCBS dies being out of spec.
800x is IMHO a bit faster than you want for 5.7x28. Try True Blue, Acc#7, HS-7, Blue Dot, VVN105, VV3N38, or Longshot. I dont care very much for the loads listed in the Lyman manual. The OAL's are way off and many of the powders they have selected are inappropriate.
I would not go over 55gr in any of the 57 platforms (except locked breach weapons). Bullets DO NOT need to be flat base.
Sounds like you need to check out the forum Wiki and browse/search the 5.7 reloading subforum before going any further.

Re: Getting into reloading, need advice on loads
Grant has probably as much 5.7 testing under his belt as FN. You'd do well to follow his sound advice. As an aside I use Dillon dies and Grant's loads.

Re: Getting into reloading, need advice on loads
Where are you guys ordering the Dillon dies? Has anyone used both the Dillon and the Lee? Which are working better with the 5.7 round?
