magnetic induction vs 5.7 brass (for science)

Post by galexander » 05 Mar 2022, 22:42

Anybody understand the physics of magnetic induction annealing? My induction annealer will melt the other cases of similar diameter I have used it on in 4 to 5 seconds, but even after making a smaller diameter coil it doesn't even get 5.7 brass hot enough to change the color at all after 20 seconds. Well, it will melt/burn the lacquer off if I don't remove that first, which I do for this test since my DBX seems to run fine without it. Anyway does anyone know what could make the 5.7 brass so much less effected by magnetic induction? Less Zinc? More Zinc? Maybe it is admiralty brass and has a dash of tin? Magic?😖
