Subsonic SUPRESSED PS90 SBR & FSN MK2

Post by Defender » 23 Sep 2015, 17:05

Ok guys I have waded through TONS of OLD topics and tried my damnedest to read it all.
I have tried 1 for the FSN and it is NOT subsonic but it is quieter suppressed over factory ammo.

Here is what I have Powder wise.
HS6, Blue Dot, Power Pistol, Unique, AA7, AA9 & LilGun

Bullet I would like to use.
55 GN fMJ
53 GN Amax
55 GN Varmagedon

The load I have tried so far is this
55gn FMJ over 3.4gn HS6 seated to 1.58

I will try iFires data for the PS90 tomorrow. His was this but case fill worries me.
3.0gn of HS6 under 55gn FMJ seated to 1.58.

He states it was subsonic. If it will work in the 10.4" PS90 will it cycle the action in the FSN??

Any help would be appreciated and links to your data or OLD topics if you are better @ the Tactical Search than I am.

I have used 3.4gr HS-6 w/Berry's 55gr FMJBT in my FsN (COAL 1.585"), it had an average of 1,061fps.
The longer barrel length in the PS90 will cause an increase in velocity so subs in the FsN may not work well in the PS90 & vice versa.
Personally, I thought the 3.4gr was borderline low on case volume.
Also used 2.7gr Power Pistol, avg 1083 - 50gr Vmax Moly
3.3gr Accurate 7, avg 954fps - 55gr Berry's FMJBT

That's all I have with those powders but if you PM me your email, I can send you my excel file with all the loads I have tested. I haven't done anything recently but it is still real data.
All of my data is out of the FsN.
Most, if not all, of my data is also posted in the Ok, folks... thread.

DO NOT use blue dot for subsonics. I tried and had wonky results. It likes lots of powder. I feel it could cause a kaboom if to little is in the case.

GONRA reminds Sub Sonic folks to MAKE DAM SURE THE BULLET leaves the barrel in any blowback or modfied blowback action - or KABOOM!
Suggest you let SOMEBODY ELSE develop the (reduced) load, MAYBE add .1 or .2 grain powder and blast away.
Carefully weigh EVERY powder charge (for ALL 5.7x28 FN reloading) and BE CAREFULL!!!

We can't all let someone else develop the load - someone has to be that someone.

I've found that 2.7Gn HS6 with a 55Gn Midway Dogtown bullet + Remington 7.5 Small Rifle primer gives me 1040 to 1070 FPS out of the 10.4 Inch PS90 SBR. It cycles the action no problem.

Same load in a FN 5.7 (with a Jarvis threaded barrel) yields ~950 FPS and cycles the action no problem.

I've not been able to get bulk 55Gn (Armscor or Hornady) bullets to stabilize in either patform, but for whatever reason the Midway Dogtowns don't give me any trouble...

OAL was 1.585

I found 2.7 to 2.9 area of longshot under a 55 hornady FMJ or xtreme bullets FMJ, OAL 1.6, primer WSR. Works as subsonics in a PS-90 sbr. However they do work in a FN 57, but they don't stabilize in a can on the 57. No probs on the sbr with can. Grimmond was a help in developing this load.

I couldn't get the Hornady FMJ's to stabilize with or without the can (Spectre II on the pistol and a Liberty 5.56 can (don't recall the make) on the SBR). The dogtowns didn't give me trouble either way...

The 950FPS on the pistol was both with and without the can-- it didn't seem to make much difference. The Liberty can on the SBR knocked off about ~20FPS, which made the round a little quick without it, but perfect with....

I started out with the 3.0Gn of HS6 as mentioned in the thread, but that put me at 1150 to 1170 (just over the speed of sound).

I've got a couple of kegs of longshot onhand; I'll do a testing day sometime between now and Christmas, and try out the longshot for subs.

Work your load down with longshot. I was able to do 2.5 without a squib. But then your barrel might be different, etc etc. Don't expect the pistol to stabilize, but it could be the xtreme bullets I was using.

Sorry about double post. But was looking at some data and ran across my experiments here. 2.3 was a danger. Had some good numbers then 2 very low ones. Don't go near or below 2.5 unless you check for squibs each shot.

I have played with the HS6 and have one that is close in my Pistol. I'm thinking it was 3.2 as the 3.4 seemed to be a little hotter that I was looking for. it was stabilizing the 55 grn fmj's that I had. I think they were Winchester branded. The suppressor on my Pistol is the PTP Tactical Scout 19 .22 can. Therefore I am working with a small suppressor for gasses to move. I'm waiting for my new suppressor to be built. it is a PTP Ranger Micro LEO suppressor. It will be a .45 bore size with boosters and end caps all the way down to .22. This will allow for a larger area for gasses to escape inside the can. I will do more testing with the PS90 & Liberty Mystic when my HVAC shop slows down. Thanks for all the help guys.
