SS197SR vs 124gr 9mm+p

Post by broknindarkagain » 26 Mar 2014, 19:48

I am relatively new to the 5.7. I picked one up on a trade.

Anyways, I've carried various 9mm pistols since I was able to carry a weapon...My current carry weapon is a Smith & Wesson M&P9c (excellent pistol btw - 20,000 trouble free rounds through it).

I will continue to carry my M&P9c (because of size), but my question is about my "bump in the night" gun. I have always put my holster and pistol in the nightstand when I go to bed....so until this day my M&P has been my bump in the night gun. I keep Winchester PDX1 124 grain +p loaded in it.

I know both the 9mm and the 5.7 will fit the bill as a defensive weapon. I know what both are capable of. I do have other people in the home though (wife and 3 children). Between the SS197SR and the PDX1 +p rounds, what round has less potential of over penetration, going through multiple walls, etc? I know both will tear right through drywall (unless they hit a stud) but what one of the two loses the most energy?

As well, is there a better 5.7 round available for defense then what I'm currently using?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

:)

S4M is a great SD round; it's a sped up ss192.
