Unique ammo

Post by Mick » 12 Sep 2012, 15:57

Hi all,

I'm new to 5.7 x 28 firearms. I made a phone enquiry to a gun shop about .57 x 28 ammo that they have for sale. The gun on the phone told me that the brand they had was Unique, and that they projectiles were 40 grain V max. Has any one used or heard of this ammo?

The 40gr V-Max is normal factory loaded SS197SR. Maybe unique compared to other handgun ammunition but nothing new with the 5.7x28. Unless they're somebody's handloads, in which case I would advise NOT shooting them...

I think he meant the brand was unique... not Unique.

Used as an adjective... not a proper noun. :lmao:

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I should clarify that I am located in Australia. The Unique (proper noun) Munitions ammunition is the only brand that I have so far found over here. Apparently it is manufactured/loaded over here to. I am still attempting to find out who they are and how I can contact them. I just want to initially find out to what spec they are loading their ammunition.

I'll keep digging.

I stand corrected :) Google searches of combinations of "Unique Munitions" "5.7x28" and "Australia" turned up nothing to go on, so please let us know what you find out!

Mick! I believe your Australian brethren on the board mentioned that they only could obtain one source of ammunition, so it may very well be Unique.

I thought you were from Australia, which is why I asked! :)

I did find a reference to Unique Munitions on the website of Cleaver Firearms in Queensland.
"fn 5.7x28 ammo loaded by u.m. in australia
40gr v-max ballistic tip
$45/per 30
$330/per 300"
On their site they had a picture of a box of SS197SR. They also sell everything FN including guns, once fired brass and reloading equipment.

I think I know who they are. A gun shop about 5 months ago down there bought 550 plates from us.

A year ago, someone from Australia posted on the forum that they wanted used brass.

I think I know the going rate, now... Is it legal to send brass there?

Obviously that but why is it regulated?

Because it's not scrap it's considered a small arms component.

I'm new to the world of 5.7x28 - also in Australia - UM Aust. is definitely the only source of ammo at the moment.

I'm starting to collect loading hear now. Fully appreciate the difficulties of loading the round, so might load some .308 first.

I'd love to get some brass from you guys, but alas, it's not possible.

Hopefully if it's a matter of licensing and Brassman can export the stuff.

Not sure if this is valid- but I'm slightly worried about using ammo that could blow my hand off by this UM Australia company I know little about. Bit of an oversight when buying the firearm I must admit.. but now I'm very motivated to get loading myself... Just need to find data for powders available in Australia :(
