Optics Conundrum

So i have decided to sell off a couple goodies and upgrade from the USG sight to either an Aimpoint or compact ACOG (1.5x) with the TROS mounts.

I cannot decide between the 2, i don't own an ACOG but i have really liked the once i have fondled. But i have read that they are piss-poor for inside 25 meters and i dont want to neuter my PS90 like that. On the other hand i would like a little more precision capability than a 2MOA dot on the Aimpoint, not a practical want but still a want none the less.

Theres quite a few people now using the Aimpoint + TROS option but i haven't heard of anybody with the ACOG on it yet.

Has anyone handled a 1.5x ACOG? If so how do you think it would fair in CQB situations?

I know i SHOULD just get the Aimpoint on the PS90, and use the extra $ left over to buy a full size ACOG for my FS200o :(

I think the Aimpoint would be better for CQC on the PS90. ACOG would go better with the FS2000 IMO.

Agreed - ACOGs are geared more for long range work. If you don't want the USG sight, I'd go with the Aimpoint T-1 or M3.

I use several optic sights like you're talking about, Acog, eotech and a couple of other reflex sights. I like the USSS for the ps-90 and it's 200 meter range. Just my two cents worth.

PS ...forgot. Two things about the USSS. 1) no batteries 2) works with NVG without having to push different selector buttons in the darn dark (Like the Eotech). Dang! I hate that part of the Eotech.

Thanks for the input.

I decided to go with the aimpoint + TROS mount.

Good news is a got a good deal in a "used" NIB aimpoint. Bad news is TROS is 3+ weeks out on the next batch of mounts.

I prefer the aimpoint. There are many mounts that can allow it to be used as a co-witness, should you desire to move it to another platform. I think it looks and performs better than the eotech.

Aimpoint is excellent quality and is the original red dot sight.

I like EOTECH sights for "both eyes open" shooting. Pricey but worth it.

But I'll make-do with my Bushnell TRS 23 red dot scope. It's durable enough for now and cost less than $90.

Take a look at my T-1 / T-2 mount. (as well as the RMR) It is lower and gives a better cheekweld. Click on "products" and take a look. http://dmachineri.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I saved a lot of money and bought the Vortex SPARC II sight. Quite rugged from all accounts I've seen.

I put a Vortex SPARC II red dot on my TROS Low Mount and it comes up perfectly to my line of sight every time. I bought it from Optics Planet for $180.

This scope has all three tethered caps (battery and windage & elevation) and comes with plastic scope caps and high and low mounts and a 1/4" shim for use with either mount. It ships with the low mount in place.

The SPARC II has a Vortex VIP lifetime guarantee (lifetime of the company, not the owner!).
