My custom PS90 accessory designs

Post by SpookyDan » 02 Apr 2014, 17:57

I have recently gained interest in designing parts/solutions for my PS90 and wanted to show them to you guys and get some feedback/suggestions. Currently I am just making prototypes for myself but if the interest is there maybe more some day.

The first is a custom barrel shroud that I have designed for the FN PS90. The original intent was to cover up the awkward long barrel that sticks out of the front of the PS90 while maintaining the look/feel of the factory gun. The shroud also adds 4 accessory rails which are solid mounted to the frame of the gun unlike other currently available shrouds/quad rails which mount to the free floating barrel. This currently only exists in an SLS "3D print" prototype form as pictured.

This one shows a shortened version that will not extend past cut slots in the barrel. May help with heat vs plastic issues and dirt/residue buildup.
Image

This version eliminates the bottom rail in favor of improved grip.

One of the improvements that my PS90 barrel shroud adds that is another grip option. The shape of the shroud adds a forward grip position about 3.5" in front of the factory grip. It's a comfortable grip which I believe will improve stability/accuracy while also feeling more like other rifles you are used to.

I kind of like the one without the bottom rail.

I really don't want any additional accessories farther out than the frame. Yeah they're lightweight but it's still more mass to move or stop moving & it all adds up. Plus it's more stuff that can get hung up on debris.
Having the foregrip further out would help with control but it would still be better to have the weight closer to the rear IMHO.

The second is a P90/PS90 cheek riser design I am working on. This will solve the problem of the shooters "cheek weld" & eye level being too low when using rail mounted optics. My first prototype will be a 1" riser which I currently have on order! Will post real photos as soon as I can assuming it fits.

Lemme know what you think. And lemme know if you have any of your own needs/ideas that you need help with. I like doing this stuff and would love to help out. I have done a lot of stuff for my H&Ks but this is my first time messing with the PS90.

Thought they already had something like that, although I don't know where to get it.
You may want to incorporate some way of getting different heights on the cheek rest, not all mounts/optics are equal. Extra layers to go on top, extra screw holes... Or just provide cheek rests of different heights?

Found the pic

I've also seen people use the dual mags as a cheek riser.

It was made for airsoft as a backup battery housing I believe. Don't think it fits actual PS90/P90s.

Has been discontinued anyway, can't find them anywhere.

Even if airsoft... Will always love that photo. :D

This I like plus it re-enforces a failure point in the PS90 stock. That rear cross bolt area is prone to cracking and a great many PS90 owners would be shocked to find theirs are cracked. When you take the butt plate off the ribs that intersect that rear cross bolt bore will have small cracks in them.

Yes I know I need to do a vid.

Yes please do a video jay. I use the double mag as my cheek rest not very comfortable but it lines up perfectly with my eotech.

Dude,

sweet designs.

Much kudos and thanks for being proactive and going out there and doing that.

Makerbot prosumer 3D printers are very inexpensive; I'm looking forward to the influx of designs!

After you're done with the PS90, you might want to hit the FNAR.

It has the saddest, most pathetic, "how did they release this rifle thinking this was ok" cheek riser issue.

The tallest riser is still way below the proper eye position for most scopes, even without tall rings.

Maybe the testers had really freakin fat face-cheeks.

But Europeans always sucked at making guns that were actually dynamic and had inherent designs that aided the shooter in placing a better shot.

Most actual "improvements" that you need to use a gun in the most fundamental form, come from America.

Rich Europeans just go to the range with a polish rag, shoot one shot, and polish the crap out of their guns and baby them. Unless they are crappy AKs or they are competition shooters.

IIRC the stock & grip are all one piece but the whole thing can be pulled off.

So this cheek riser is very close to becoming reality. I just need the funds. Think we could scrap together enough interest with a kickstarter type fundraiser to make it happen?

I have created a revised version that is adjustable to a .5, .75 and 1" rise. Will not work with double mag.

I would need to get about 100 pre-orders for about 75-100 bucks.

What do you guys think?

Good luck, we've been screwed before & some of us hold a grudge.

There's also the reason we don't allow n00bs to post for sale ads until they have 50 posts, it gives the people here a chance to see if you might be someone they are willing to do business with.
You have 5 posts, unless it's from another forum, no one here really knows you well enough to be sending you money.

Also, if you're going to promote any kind of business, you need to talk to jmz5 about it.

SpookyDan wrote:Just floating ideas.

I think it is very viable; 100 units for 75-100$ might be a tad on the high side,

but as long as you market it correctly, your biggest fanbase will be the wannabe tactical fanboys; you will be able to milk it out of them as long as you tell them it will improve their shooting, etc. etc.

Which, technically, if they do need the riser portion to maintain a correct cheekweld, it would make them shoot better.. if they knew how to...

No sarcasm intended.

GO FORTH, and MARKET THE CRAP OUT OF IT!!!

I can tell you that as a Forum Sponsor we tried pre-orders on a couple of things because the "interest" was there until it came to actually placing the orders. That's why there are a couple of projects shelved permanently. But good luck with your project.

Had a buddy of mine with a SBR PS90 and a MakerBot print this out for me. Not the Best quality 3D print or photo but he said it fit great! Hope to have my next round of actual prototypes here next week.

Got in my new shroud and cheek riser prototypes yesterday. Not the best pics but fit and function is awesome. Riser gives perfect eye alignment for my red dot and mag clears nicely when removed. Gonna sand and paint up everything for a clean look.

They all come in white with the current manufacturing method. I had mine painted tan. They can be sanded and painted or dyed however you wish.

Just because you don't have the requisite number of posts to sell yet doesn't mean we don't want to hear from you. I'm sure if your design is taking off then some people here will also want it, we just have to play by the rules. Trust me, you're not the only one bitten by that rule #5 but it's our attempt to protect our members.

You're also welcome to contribute to other threads, not just this one.

Plus, check in to see if there are any questions. For instance, would your 'augments' come with the mounting hardware? Would your forends come with the rails? Does the forend fit the other PS90 designs or just the tri-rail?

What software program did you use to create your designs? They are full of fantastic detail! If you need more 3-D modeling done, try joining the 3D-HUB...there are over 16,000 members who mostly do 3d printing as a sideline or home based operation. Some of them can do modeling down to 5-micron density, but, the average is 50-micron. There are probably several in your area that can produce much better quality models than the one shown in your photo, and the cost is embarrassingly low in most instances. If you cannot generate .STL files, then most will accept a simple sketch, then work with you to get the design made ready for printing (also at low cost). I don't do 3D printing, but, have had some good and some bad experiences with them so far...but the price was always "right".

My shroud design for PS90 "USG" and "Standard" versions is finally ready to move to prototype. There are really no mounting options as simple as the "tri-rail" version so I came up with an idea that uses snap-fit tabs that will attach to the rectangular cavity on the gun's frame. These tabs should be plenty secure on their own but will also be backed up by a nut and bolt just to be sure. I know a snap-fit type connection might be a turnoff for some of you but I believe this is the best/most secure way without modifying the gun itself. And may even be stronger than the "tri-rail" version. Have a look and let me know what you think. Will be sending this to be manufactured within the week then onto test fitting!

I included a photo showing how much my current mounting tabs can flex without breaking so really not worried about flexible snap on tabs.

If they flex like that & still hold tight (I do like the nut & bolt backup), I think you're good to go. Keep us up to date on your testing.

I don't have a PS-90, but if I did, I would be eagerly looking forward to this product.

I still haven't gotten a chance to test fit my new shroud design on a "standard" PS90 (which I designed it for) but it fits the tri-rail! Looks like I might have something that will fit all three versions now. :D

:thumb: Looking very nice! I like the fit using the indentation on the PS90. The Laser and Tactical light will work much better parallel to the barrel. Good job!!

Cool design and everything, specially for the air-soft guys, But you still seem to want to sell them without helping out the person who made this forum possible for you to come undercut long-term Supporters and sell your products. You avoided being a MFG making these parts... so you didn't have to pay the ATF for a FFL, (which ain't cheap) The least you can do is scratch the back of the man allowing you to market your products for free and take 'pre orders' while you are just a Junior member and do not even have the required amount of post. I do not know you from Adam, and I am not the only one.. your lack of hospitality for others is why these products will never get off the ground. I know I could sell 5-10 and even get the shop to buy some for the PS90's there, but no one knows or trust you enough to do so. Your word and products look nice on the internet, but so did many good ideas that came before you. You are looking for 10,000$ in pre-orders. That big money to pull from anywhere without spending a cent. Keep up the good work!

If I am breaking rules feel free to close or delete my thread. I am just a guy in a divorce that came home to an empty house this weekend trying to buy a crib for his 9 month old son.

You are breaking the rules, clearly posted.

Also you are selling these as is no warranty since you where having issues with the tabs breaking and have been trying to sell them for awhile now on FB, not just all of a sudden.

Simple you want to sell here then pay to join the forum.

Contact JMZ if you have issues with this or want to work out something.

FYI Months ago I contacted you to buy and stock on EA's site your cheek risers but you ignored my PM's.

Not to mention you were warned about the rules on December 15, 2014 when your ad was removed.

Now this latest ad is also removed & a temporary ban issued . If there is a next time, the ban will be permanent.
