100 yard

This morning I fired a 10 shot group @ 100 yards for the first time w/ my 57. 8 fell into a decent 7 3/8" with two fliers opening it up to 13 inches. Is this the norm for ss197? If I had a clue how to post a pic here of the target I would.

I like that I have set the precedent. We need to know the weather data for your shot group, but it sounds about right for ss197. I didn't shoot ss195's because they are lighter, though faster. Anyone else care to try?

Weather: 88-90*F. Cross wind varried from 0-3 at 100 yards really didn't affect anything that I shot that day other than my 41 smith at the swinging ram. Pistol was sandbagged with my chin resting on another sandbag (makes it easier to line up 4 things at once).

I think more precision shooting can be done with this gun if the dots on the sights was absent, they seemed to distract me. BTW the more I shoot this gun the more I like it. Me thinks that it is capable of decent accuracy although being difficult to obtain due to the light weight. A laser/light was added to this thing for weight more than anything, it actually made offhand shooting easier. One could machine out a 2 oz weight for the rail....perhaps that would be enough?

We shall see. There's a fine line that I've been known to cross between confidence and arrogance. I do plan to do more 100 shooting with my FsN in the future.

I wasn't having any luck sighting in my rifle and some people had just left their firing positions for the day so I hopped on their spot and sent 5 SS197's downrange at their 100yd target. The bigger holes are obviously their rifle shots. Only 4 of mine made it on target. After I shot the first one, my buddy said it was way low (by looking at the berm, no spotting scopes or anything today). I adjusted 6 clicks up and the other 4 shots came on target. Negligible wind, about 89 degrees, Pensacola FL so the humidity is through the roof. Had the bottom of the pistol mag rested on the wooden shooting stand and I was in a sitting/crouch position. Kind of awkward and hard to get low enough to see the sights but it worked out ok. Next time I'll spend some more time there with more ammo. The other annoying part was since we had no optics I had to wait for the range to go cold to check and it was just a pain in the ass. Next time I'll use one of those large Shoot'n'see targets. Fun stuff.

I usually try to time my shots (on some type of rest at least) as the front sight aligns with the rear sights and breaks a color barrier. So here it was as it comes up to the bottom of the black ring (couldn't see the red one at that distance :\). I developed a tendency to aim just lower than center thanks to shooting on "dog" targets during annual rifle quals and it's stuck ever since.
