Interesting Article about the .22WMR and the 5.7x28mm

I know it's a couple years old... but I still thought it was an interesting read. Especially the part about the SS197 only having a Muzzle Velocity of 1560 fps and ME of 216 ft when fired out of the FiveseveN.

Its just more people who think that barrel length has no effect on muzzle velocity.

They compare full rifle length .22WMR velocities to pistol 5.7 velocities.

What we should do - Take Elite PS90 muzzle readings for the PenetraTOR 55gr FMJ, then go take muzzle velocities of 5.56/.223 55gr fired from a 4.9 inch pistol barrel.
What would happen?
2300FPS from 5.7 with a 55gr.
The .223 would get probably about 2000 FPS. Its hard to find data for .223 ballistics on barrels shorter that 14.5 inches, let alone 10.
Then, following the same test procedure as them, we reveal that 5.56 is actually less powerful than 5.7x28.
At this point, they attack us for using such a short barrel with the 5.56.
We kindly point out that they did the same thing, and that in effect, they've just attacked their own testing.

someone tried to use that article recently citing those figures. We all know standard ss197SR form the FSN can usually go as high as 1750ish FPS. That is only a mere 9-10% loss from a 10" barrel, not the 20% the assumer assumers. His article should be taken down for such assumptions

The keltec 223 pistol is a good place to start with measuring those short barrel stats that you wanted...

I think the guy that wrote the article has his math messed up a bit. The guy that wrote this article here

I just thought it was interesting that the guy that wrote the story in my original post seems to think the 5.7 is pretty much a .22 WMR with a pointy tip!

Indeed, people that think 5.7 is a .22WMR pistol are very very hopelessly misinformed.

A 22wmr RIFLE is a highly effective weapon at under 100 yards. So trying to dismiss the fiveseven PISTOL by comparing it to a rifle. Do they not see that this is a compliment to the caliber. A pocket Sized RIFLE.

Secondly. Compare that data of the m4 carbine at 300 yards (effective range) to the fiveseven pistol at it's effective ranges. In some loads the fiveseven is superior.
