Light, Laser, or combo pix, please

Post by Mister Freeze » 21 Sep 2009, 14:09

With the holidays steadily marching nearer, I figured I'd try to put out my wishlist. I've found that if I ask for only one or 2 things, I usually get them. Soooo... Please post pix of your FsN with lite, laser, and combos to help me choose. Thanks!

I don't know if I can get to it tonight or not, but I can take pics of both a SureFire X400 and Streamlight TLR-2 on a FiveseveN for you.

I really like my Viridian X5L, I just got it recently.
It has an awesome super bright usable in bright sunlight green laser, and a fairly bright (But not TLR-1/2 bright) light on it. VERY lightweight at 2.9 ounces IIRC. Matches the gun nicely.

The cons to it are this : No holsters for it. I'm currently working on getting someone to make a custom holster for it, but for now I carry it either no holster in my pants :?: or inside of the Blackhawk universal XL size holster for Viridian equipped autos, that Viridian sells on their site. (It is nylon, and floppy, a no-go)

My observations about these two are:
  • The TLR-2 has more peripheral light but the center spot is not as bright as the X400
  • The X400 has a much brighter center spot, but less peripheral light
  • The X400 has a brighter laser dot than the TLR-2
  • The TLR-2 is slightly heavier (4.7 vs. 4.5 ounces) than the X400
  • The X400 has a shutoff position to prevent accidental activation, but the TLR-2 does not
  • Both can do light, laser, or both
  • Both have momentary and constant on modes

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

These are both LED? What's a good light to go with the Unimax? Are there good lites that are shorter?

Yes the TLR-2 and X400 are both LED. Both take (2) CR123 lithium batteries. The X400 claims 110 lumens and a 2.4 hour run time. The TLR-2 claims 135 "peak" lumens and a 2.5 hour run time. Both of these units have a laser module built in. If you are using a Unimax, you might try the X300 or TLR-1. These are the same lights, but without the laser module. Since the laser modules are mounted on the bottom side, the laserless lights won't be as deep.

Other than the Viridian X5L pictured above, I don't know about lights that might be shorter.

By the way, the X400 is about 150 bucks more than the TLR-2. I think the X400 is slightly better, but not by that much. I think for the price, the TLR-2 is a great light.

I hope that helps.

2 cr123's? Wow. I have this, that I like, and it only takes one, but I'm more interested in an all-in-one system. Then of course, there's the whols holster issue :wall:

If I recall correctly, Bladetech makes a holster that will fit a FiveseveN with either a TLR-2 or X400 light mounted. It does not have positive retention, just friction retention.

Yes, we've all been down tat road. I love my BH Serpa, but alas, no room for anything on the rail. Once I settle on a lite/laser, I'll look into something custom.

If you find someone good who can make custom holsters, post it here, as I need a holster for my X5L. If only they made a Serpa for it... Sigh... :?:

I highly recommend the TRL-2. When ever I'm carrying my USG in a duty belt, it has one on it. I have a Safariland Tac holster attached to med-range belt attachment. When wearing on a regular belt holster, I have the Laser-Max, Mini Max. I have a red and a green laser from them.

Here is a picture of my 5.7 with an Insight M6 flashlight and laser. Also pictured is our, Check Six Training LLC, design and proto-type paddle flashlight holster. It is a custom, wet formed (by hand), handmade holster out of HEAVY cowhide. I started a new thread above asking for your input.

It is a cheapo with the tips ground off ($35). So far, it's taken several 100 rounds without a flicker.

Why worry? You're in the UK, I'm sure it will fit your airsoft?
:p
