Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive than FN's other models?
Re: Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive...
1. Only pistol of it's kind 2. It's FN
Re: Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive...
Yup, they've got the market cornered. I'm really surprised that ammo has stayed so reasonable for so long, as long as you by it from PSA that is.
Re: Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive...
So I'm hearing, "just cuz"...
Re: Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive...
My .02
They are charging what the market will bear. I foresee the price continuing to slowly raise until sales slow.

Re: Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive...
Part of the reason is demand. About 80% of all FsN pistols go to government contracts around the world. Contrary to internet commandos the FsN is used extensively around the world and is in high demand.
FsN's sold for pubic consumption are ran in between contract runs to keep the assembly lines going.
Due to this there is a very limited number of them, all the major distributors have not seen a FsN in 6 plus months.
This means FNH does not have to drop the price, distributors once they get them no way in hell have to drop the price etc.
In fact currently FNH is about to release a handful of FsN pistols. To be able to buy an FsN you have to buy a FN 45 tactical with every single FsN you want to buy.
So not only do they have no motivation to drop the price, they are forcing gun shops to buy crap they don't want to just be able to buy them.

...great, artificial scarcity...
Re: Why is the FiveseveN so much more expensive...
There's really only 1-2 other "pistols" that are chambered in 5.7 and they are a far cry from the package of FN's Five-seven. And to be fair their FNx-45 tactical costs just as muchDozam wrote:...great, artificial scarcity...

I could still sell just about every one I could get my hands on at list price. Everyone that shoots mine wants one, and the price doesn't seem to deter them, just the lack of any in the stores.

Well they will have competition very soon. A major firearms manufacture that everyone on this forum has heard of is finalizing their 5.7 mil spec pistol.
It will use FsN magazines and be a polymer/metal hybrid.
There will be 2 versions, 1 striker and the other hammer.
At a minimum this will force FNH to drop their prices and bump up their delivery of them.
Also this new pistols target price is 600 bucks.

The price definitely hurts FiveSeveN sales. There is good interest but most back off looking at the cost.

Agreed and this paves the way for another firearm manufacture to step in and in this case unlike Excel Arms this is a heavy hitter.

Not really, they tried a locked breach with the BOZ round and it shattered frames and slides after a few shots all the while not having enough residual power to cycle the slide.
There is a reason why they are blow back.
Also one of the biggest hurdles the manufacture is fighting with. Their system will be new and patented.

Yeah the price is prohibitive, especially for me; I'm a disabled veteran unable to work..and was eyeing the FiveseveN, as shooting it doesn't aggravate pain in my arms and wrist (carpel tunnel, among other things), like even a 9mm will...but being on a set income makes that very difficult...

Full, the 5.7 just won't work in anything shorter than 4, and by that I mean ballisticaly.
