Re: At the Range today

Thanks for the range report. Good to know that even newbs can shoot well with the FsN. After all, that is why I bought one - much easier than my .40 to shoot accurately. Icing on the cake was the quality, EA ammo and 30 round mags - quite a convincing combination of features. You may have converted ...

Re: Fastfire/Burris sight?

My Burris FF2 worked great for the first couple of ammo boxes. Then, it came loose - not the site or its base, but the original dovetail steel base that the site mount is attached to. Took it apart and decided that the common rear site "stake" process may not be strong enough for the new site. So, I...

Re: S4 conversion - what is done to the SS195

Ok to clear up any confusion; When EA revamps your ss195, they remove the bullet, remove the LF primer, seat non-LF primers, add their proprietary formula, seat the bullet back according to their formula. Then they send it back to you in the form of S4 that will have a longer round-life and is much...

Wow - google gave me zip. At least the forum search shows 6 matches for "s4 primer". Nothing about the primer being replaced in those 6 though. Anyhow, I'd like to know what EA is doing nowdays with the primers, since practice may have changed from the past.

Ok, but what do you mean by "replace the primers when needed"? That is, how do you decide whether or not to replace the primers? Is this maybe related to the lead free issue whereby you are always replacing the lead free with a leaded version?

In the FsN, the S4 runs about 14 inches higher at 50 yards than the SS197. Not sure about the PS90, but you would think that the difference would be in the same direction with perhaps less of a difference between the 2 ammo types.

One of each is a good choice, because they are for completely different things - IMHO. In the high power category - such as .357, .40, and .45 - you have a weapon that is great for short ranges and non-vest wearing BGs. The FsN and 9mm both fit in the lower power segment, but the FsN is well suited ...

If I am understanding that test correctly, the SS197 bullet, a 40 grain with plastic tip, will just barely penetrate a level IIIa vest at 2100 fps velocity.
