Re: First handloads - success
I had the chance to try my Power Pistol and BE86 loads in a S&W M&P pistol. Here are the results. (I have a more complete write up on the S&W in the Handgun section). 10 rounds shot in each test group. Hornady 40 Vmax, 6.0gn Power Pistol: 2057 fps average, 12.6 SD, 48 extreme spread. Hornady 35 Vmax...

Re: S&W M&P5.7
I picked up a S&W 5.7 recently, and had a chance to take it out to the range with some of my reloads, as well as three different factory ammo. First impression - The gas operating system is very clever. I was afraid it would make the gun difficult to field strip, but it comes apart almost identical ...

Re: Any S&W M&P 5.7 Reloaders Out There?
I just picked up a S&W 5.7 but have not had a chance to fire it yet. I am impressed with the design of the gas operation. Field stripping is not much different than most locked breech tilting barrel designs. Of course, how well it functions remains to be seen. I am not 100% sure yet, but I do believ...

Re: First handloads - success
Have you done any more experimenting with BE86? I typically use TrueBlue but have about 40lbs of BE86 and just haven’t gotten through all my True Blue yet (still about 20lbs). No, I have not done much else with 5.7 and BE86. I will be trying some more soon, I just picked up a S&W 5.7 recently and w...

Re: Tumbling in stainless tumbler without stainless pins???
I’ve thought about wiring up a timer to a wet tumbler so that it only runs for a few seconds, every 5 minutes. But I remembered I had an old Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner and that has worked very well.

Re: First handloads - success
Can’t say that I have seen an increase in velocity with more rounds. The first batch of 40 Vmax with 5.6gn of True Blue have been the fastest, and I suspect that may have been because of temperature and the fact I may have crimped those a little tighter.

I took more Power Pistol loads to the range to zero in on the best charges, checking for accuracy. I loaded up 5 rounds of each charge, 3 charges each for the 35vmax and 40vmax bullets. I found a good load for each. Shot from my Panzer AR57 16" barrel. Power Pistol, Winchester WSR small rifle primer...

Re: Hornady cam lock case trimmer.
I had a friend go through the same problem, I'm not sure what he did about it. I think he contacted Hornady about it.
After that, when I first started loading 5.7, I decided to use the Lee trimmer, with the cutter mounted in my RCBS case prep station.

Re: Lil'Gun for Ruger LC Carbine
The FsN should be fine, PS90, forget the recoil springs, they just speed the bolt back up, it would be the HD rate reducer and HD magazine catch spring upgrade. I definitely think that the heavier buffer or rate reducer is the way to go. With the extra weight, a lighter spring could be used. I orde...

I was at a gun show today and was talking with one vendor about powders, he said that Power Pistol was one that has not been available for a while. Re: First handloads - success
Standard disclaimer - my gun, my loads, my results. While they worked ok in my gun, they may not work well or even be safe in YOUR gun. I went back to the range today to try out some more loads. I had some test loads in True Blue and BE86, 3 charge levels of each, and 5 rounds of each charge level. ...

I went to the range yesterday, but forgot to bring my production run loads. I did bring 10 rounds loaded with pistol primers just to see how they would work. I know that I am nowhere near max pressure, Quickload says they should be 38k psi. The pistol primers looked a little more stressed than the r...

Re: Fort Scott 40 gr. Solid Copper TUI
You probably already know this, but I think it is worth mentioning. Copper bullets will be longer due to the lower density of copper vs lead. Seated to a similar OAL, the copper bullet will leave less internal space than a lead bullet. Start with a lower charge than the minimum published data for le...

Re: 5.7 x 28 astronomical prices
I just picked up some Hornady 40 Vmax bullets from Midway for 17 cents each (factory seconds). Primers now are down to 8 cents each. So, loading 5.7 right now is about 28 cents per round. It is a little less for me as I am using primers that I stocked up on when they were 3 cents or less. On the oth...

I also want to know about BE86. It is one powder that I stocked up on, I’ve had good results in several calibers with it. The burn rate seems to be in the range that should work.

First handloads - success
Lee dies (sizer, seater, collet crimper) all worked well. Sized cases checked at .312”, all chambered without issues. Since I don’t have a case gauge yet, I dropped each one into the rifle chamber to check. I first made dummy rounds to help get the dies adjusted. For those, I used Imperial sizing wa...

I went to the range today to test out my first handloads, and to test the heavy buffer. I ran 10 rounds of factory Federal ammo with the stock buffer (4.8oz) and then with the heavy buffer (8.5oz). Both worked well, but I did have one light-strike, which is not the first time it has happened with th...

Re: AR-57 Buffer weight for 16" Barrel?
FYI Shoulder movement while under full pressure is normal for the 5.7 and part of it's operation. Yeah, that is true, but I’ve gotten a lot of 5.7 brass shot from other guns that don’t have the shoulders pushed out nearly as much as those from my AR57. I do understand the shoulder will move, that i...

Re: AR-57 Buffer weight for 16" Barrel?
After running a test this past weekend, I now fully believe a standard carbine length buffer will work. I also believe a heavier buffer will be better than the 4.8oz buffer. The first rounds from my Panzer AR57 had shoulders that were pushed out, making me think the cases were extracting too quickly...

Thanks. I got some FN and Speer ammo to try out, the bullets are not jammed into the lands, but none of the rounds allow the bolt to fully close. The buffer is also a different length (3.025”) from a standard buffer (3.25”) so I am not sure a standard buffer will work.
My buffer is 4.8oz.
My buffer is 4.8oz.

New member here. I just picked up one of the Panzer uppers from PSA. My first 5.7x28 gun. I have some different ammo ordered that I will try out that will hop...
