Pistol powder in .223 any one?

:laugh: Dont think im creasy guys, i have a good reason to explore this venue. The thing is that i have about 30lb of FN pulldown powder that is identical to TRUEBLUE, and it is whay more than i need for my 9mm and .45 plinking, a allso have lots of brass and bullits. I allso never use my .223 upper for any kind of presision shooting, just plinking at the range and such.
Anyway, ive ran some data true ballistic softwere, and it looks pretty decent: 40gr bullit 2900fps out of 15"bbl with 47000psi.
The catch is that i only can fil the case 50%. I have herd something about half filld cases go boom as a shaped charge, but never met the person with first hand expirience.
The questchen is: should i abandon the creasy idea, or am i ok to try being wery carefull?

But seriously: If you have an old upper you don't mind potentially sacrificing, you can always test the load with a 30 foot string.

50% should be fine. I have only really heard of this being an issue in coyboy shoots were they go as light as possible and tilt the pistol back each time they shoot for the record to clock their FPS. As fine as TB is you don't have to worry about the powder not evenly distributing in the case.

You will have a greater variance in fps, but for Bump firing, I mean Russian Plinking it should be fine.

I have even more then you. I only have so many people I can give it to to light bonfires.

NO it's not. No lot control my god the look I would get from my insurance agent if I told him I was selling unknown pull down powder.

OK, its a GO than, i'll load 200-300 rounds to see how it will work in gas piston AR.

Srry i've got carried away a little lust night, but anyway here it is:
after plaing around some bullit/powder combination, ive decided to go with 27grFN bullit and 40gr VMAX.




load#1: 40gr horn. vmax
RS TB - 13.0gr
COAL- 2.225
MAGTECK SR PRIMER.
estymated velocity- 2500fps
10.5"bbl
pressure 45000psi(estimated)
Observations: tho i did not use chrony,
the velocity had to be at list 2300fps, to make those vmax bullits light up in sparks on the
backstop. Pressure must being pritt low, so ive had to rack the slide manualy 60% of
the time. Allmost no recoil, meybe 25-30% of the full power .223 load. At this point ill have
start working my whay up at 0.2gr incruments untill i see some signs f pressure.

Load #2: 27grFN ss195 bullit
R5 TB- 14gr
COAL- 2.260
Basicly the same story as with 40gr bullit, exept ive had to rack the action every time, and the alluminium core
has disintegrated like a little incendiary.


Next time ill try 55gr and 62gr bullits.
