FS2000 FTFs

Post by Wollychop » 29 May 2009, 14:11

I've had quite a few fail to fires using ammunition loaded with 556 primers. By quite a few, I mean 3 or 4 per magazine which fail. Primers are dimpled.

The same ammo has no problems in a sig or AR15, leading me to believe that it may be the spring equipped firing pin on the 2000. Anyone else encounter this issue?

If this is correct, does anyone know a source for "pre recall" firing pins?

contact FNH USA. Their customer service is great, and i'm sure they would back up their product.

How do the primer strikes look on the FTF (FS2k) vs. ar-15?

A bit less "impressive" (sorry for the pun).

My FS2000 chews through civi .223 rem and ammo loaded with CCI400s like nothing but ammo loaded with CCI 41 and factory 5.56mm has at least a few failures per mag.

I really think it's just an effect of the spring/new firing pin. I'll call Bob if there's no otehr "good idea fairy" flying around out there.

I don't think there is going to be any legal way to get pre-recall firing pins. They were recalled to correct a possible legal issue.

I spoke with Robert Ailes at FN some time back regarding this issue. FN will update your rifle with a new hammer pack (maybe it was just the hammer spring) that has a stronger spring to hit the primers harder. If you have an early FS with the safety sear you won't when you get it back.

I've read that FN, actually Browning, will now sell the hammer pack to us lowly civi's. Can't confirm that yet though.

From most of what I've read, removal of the firing pin spring will solve the problem.
