Let's see your bench!
I remember someone started this thread on the old forum and I think it would be a good one to resurrect. What better way to leech ideas from one another?
I'll start it off. Here's my devistatingly unorganized setup.
So... Let's see your bench!

I'm still getting going, not sure where I want everything, and still not decided on what "everything" will be....
Here is 2 weeks ago:
and here is today, I just turned around and took the pic.....Cabellas bags for dust covers and all....I did just learn today that the Tyvek-like coffin protectors make a great disposable bench cover, and there's tons of them lying around here....

They do seem to turn up everywhere.
If ya look at the 'today' pic there's still an unpainted head in the upper right by the foam...and a pair of glass eyes stuck to the center of the bench...

Vitaliy that's not a bench - it's a throne. It's also not for reloading (uh, hopefully) - it's for unloading

That is the most organized bench yet.
Mine looks like it was hit by a hurricane, random spent primers all over the floor and all. Although I have upgraded to a new primer catching device. I put a five gallon bucket underneath my press.

My god that is a clean setup.
Most reload benches are cold, dark and usually in a basement or garage.
Who cares about a guest room, you got a reloading room.

Re: Let's see your bench!
Thanks for the compliments - Being organized is one of my character flaws (as my all too patient wife constantly reminds me).
The reloading bench was actually a workbench I built for the woodworking shop I had in the garage of my other house before I moved here a few months ago. Because the house I'm in now has a smaller garage, I sold off a lot of my woodworking stuff and figured the bench would make a nice reloading table. My old reloading setup was in the basement of my previous house, but since this house has no basement, I did convince the wife of the importance of having a designated gun room.

The prosthetic is a Flex-Foot modular III. I liked it a lot, but now have a conventional pylon with a Luxon Journey foot. Take it from me, the hardware is almost meaningless. You gotta have a proper fit or else you get sores which suck the life right out of you. There are good days and bad days.
I was in a motorcycle accident on 7 June 1991. A guy pulled out of a shopping center parking lot and ran me down as I was coasting up to a red light.
Of course he was underinsured. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital and 4 months learning to walk.
Contrary to what some people think of my gun handling skills, or lack thereof, I did NOT shoot myself in the foot.
As far as the sense of humour, you gotta get busy living, or get busy dying.

We could probably get Irish and FSNTAC to help make a pile o' brass
The RCBS powder measure that came with the RockChucker kit seems to dribble a tiny bit, hardly noticable until after 100+ rounds....assuming it's normal, I thought when I get set back up I'd just put a Clean Strides insert under the area. (tacky paper for clean room entrances)

Reloading bench layout
I am new to the forum and new to reloading. I have purchased a RockChucker and a full RCBS set up. Looking for advice on mounting locations and bench set up for the most practical flow during reloading. I built an 8'x20" bench with overhead shelf. Looking for any pointers or advice to save the could a should a woulda outcome. Planning on loading .40, .38sp, 30-30, .270, .243, 30-06 as well as the 5.7. Any pics of bench set up would be greatly appreciated.

For what it's worth, here's my set up which works well in a small space.
Back when I lived in an apartment and had very limited space, I bought a sturdy TV stand and set this up. The tumbler is bolted down to keep it from walking of the bench, and the turret press bolts are reinforced underneath with steel plates. The sad thing is, I now have a home and a whole bedroom to devote to reloading, but I still have never gotten around to building a bigger bench. The nice thing about such a small bench top, though, is it forces me to keep it clear. Only what I'm working on at the time can stay on top. Everything else MUST go back on the shelves

How's the noise level with the tumbler mounted like that?
That is one thing I try to be considerate of, not annoying the neighbors with noise from whatever project(s) I happen to be doing at the time.

It's actually pretty quiet as long as I don't fill it with too much brass (>50). Of course, now I live out on the plains (moved out of Denver to get away from the libs) and I don't have to worry about the noise. My nearest neighbor is hundreds of yards away

When I saw the title to the post I chuckled, thinking to myself "I'd like to see my bench too." Mine has so much crap on it that I can't even use it. I need to clean it up so I can. I have the same bench as c1demo two posts up. I got it at Sam's Club years ago. I have a similar set of drawers under one side and a cabinet under the other side that I store powder and bullets in.

I bet I have the same one. Is it about 6 feet tall and about 4 feet wide, with the same stainless steel doors as on the drawers in your picture? I store some of my ammo in mine. It won't all fit in there.c1demo wrote:I keep my powder, bullets and other supplies on another Sam's Storage shelf not pictured.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

It's because the frakking things won't leave me alone. The grey one in the picture steals casings and carries them around in her mouth like a dog. 5.7 is her favorite but I gave her an aluminum .45 case to go away.
Re: Let's see your bench!
You've got a Lee handpress! How do you like it? I just ordered one last week along with a half dozen bushings to have something to take with me out in the field when I'm working up new loads.PainKillaX wrote:My "Bench"

Re: Let's see your bench!
I've never used a traditional mounted press, but I LOVE it. Portable, easy to use. Mine cost ~$40 and came with a priming tool too. It's definitely nice to just sit on the couch/floor and process brass while you watch tv. I resized 400 pieces of .45 while I watched Locked Up Abroad last night. I ended up buying a set of the quick change bushings, not because they're hard to change, but so that I don't have to reset my dies each time. Cheap, light, portable, versatile, and you can write it off as a workout.500SWfan wrote:

I actually went the cheap and easy route on a lot of things. I have a Hornady digital scale and powder trickler, Lyman combo case prep tool (chamfer, deburr, and clean primer pockets for $20!), and the Lee measure set. I have the Lee hand held case trimmer. Rough on the hands if you don't toss it in the drill but it was $11. I could really use an actual cleaner but the solution I use now works well enough.
Definitely not the fastest setup but I can fit in all in a box and it won't take me as many rounds to make back my investment cost.
Re: Let's see your bench!
Glad to hear it. I love the simplicity of Lee products. The main reason I went with the Redding Turret press early on was so I could set up for a load and not have to constantly set up the dies again the next time around. I've got three turrets (and need another four or five to take the dies for all the calibers I load), and I'm thinking of changing over to a Lee single stage breech lock press and a whole lot of bushings. I usually buy two or three or four die sets when I start a new caliber (like I'm now doing with the 5.7) so I can keep different dies set up for different bullets, so the interchangeability of the breech lock bushing system would seem to work great for me. For case trimming I have always used the Lee caliber specific trimmer gauges with a battery powered drill, and I can't count the number of hours I've spent trimming cases while sitting there watching TV. Reloading is a process to be enjoyed, not an event to be circumventedPainKillaX wrote:I've never used a traditional mounted press, but I LOVE it. Portable, easy to use. Yep, I like to use the quick-change bushings. A lot cheaper than Hornady's LnL...cant speak as to the quality of the LnL's b/c i've never used one, though.
Re: Let's see your bench!
I just got my Lee handpress today, and I love it. I spent part of the afternoon resizing about a hundred 50 AE brass while watching TV, and I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon (other than shooting).
Re: Let's see your bench!
Finally got the new bench finished. I'll post pics soon.

My wife was awesome enough to get me this bench from HF for Christmas and let me have a spare room for my cave. Life is good.

Working on a die box holder to match the bench now.
Re: Let's see your bench!
Finished the die holder tonight. The bench is officially complete.
Re: Let's see your bench!
NICE!!! It looks like you've got a little too much powder on the upper shelf, though. That could be dangerous. PM me and I'll give you an address to send it to and I'll "store" it for you. :p
Good bench! I may have to imitate that when I finally get around to building my new one.

Thanks. Turned out to be a 6 month project for me. I'll let you know if I run into a storage problem. Lol

Ryan's new (A different Ryan for those not in the know) work bench for gun smithing. This is where he will break down and do minor prep work for me before I take over and complete the accurizing. Could not handle him sitting in my office at my bench. Plus only one of us could work on them at a time.

Thank you for the compliment. I've always heard do what you can with what you've got. Any functional bench is a good bench in my opinion.

My friends call me Monk when they come over to compare notes and work on loads.

Hi guys.
Love this thread!
Here is my setup.
I built it to be portable, so I can bugout with it if needed, but it also works great for taking it inside the house in case its too freezing cold in my garage, I want to be with my family, or if I want to load while using the best stereo.
It's great for going to a buddy's house for a reloading party or a trip out in the woods to work up some loads... A bit excessive... Maybe...!
It has a big enough footprint that it doesn't move around, especially when the side trays are loaded with bullets and built rounds.
The handle also stops right against the wood on a full throw.
