Preferred Laser/Light for the FiveSeveN

Post by Kiran04 » 22 Aug 2015, 19:08

The Five-SeveN is one sexy looking hand gun. As such, I feel inclined to only put a laser/light on it that looks at least equally as sexy. I have a TLR-4 on my sub-compact 9mm, but that looks too small on the larger gun. I'm considering a TLR-2, but the Viridian X5L and Surefire X400 sure are sweet looking set ups. The only problem is their obnoxious price tag, where the TLR-2 is a little more economic and just a reliable. The X5L seems to have some over-complicated controls as well. Anyone have any input or alternate suggests for lasers and flashlights for this beautiful gun?

I run an X5L on my M&P, once it's setup, it's stupid easy to get running when you need it. That being said, the laser failed inside of 6 months on the first one, and I didn't throw it at anyone or nothing.

I've got a TLR2G on an AR with the fancy door and a tape switch. Less options, easier to setup, press the switch for whatever combo you want, double tap and hold the switch for strobe. The Viridian's laser is more powerful, TLR has a bigger light, and I prefer it's pattern over the X5Ls square that they claim is a rectangle.

So long as the X5L lasts this time, I say you can't go wrong with either, both have strengths and weaknesses, but no deal breakers.

I run some variant of an Surefire X300 on all my handguns and now they are making there way to my long guns. they can be switched for constant on, held and released for momentary, and the 2 celled, higher output X300 weighs less then the equivalent M600. it actually weighs what the single cell, lower output M300 weighs. Also because i have personally busted a streamlight. pretty sure Blue has too. Along with my brother in law. I just know too many people that have busted streamlight stuff and have never seen an X300 go down. call me a fanboy.

I can't be convinced the Surefire pricetag is worth it. They cost almost twice as much as either of the other two. Even a Viridian X5L-R is less than $200. Surefire X400 is well over $400. I can almost get another FN pistol for that.

I almost said something about that too BUT Kiran says "FN pistol" not "FsN pistol" and there are FN pistols for under $500.

@Mike; yes. I have broken a brand new Streamlight TLR-1 with the FsN.

Now I use a $50 high output China light on it for shooting competition. Hasn't broken.

I also own a few TLR-1s HLs and Surefire Ultras. I haven't used the Ultras on handguns.. I'll probably slap them on a rifle or something.

When I finally get one built.
