22 for Practice??

Jokes aside, if you're speaking of .22LR; the FsN is a pretty full-framed pistol, IMO the S&W 22A and Buck Mark come fairly close.

Good luck finding ammo though. IF it's available, it's still cheaper than most, but around here, we have the same small group of buttheads that buy it all up as soon as it becomes available.

I've found cartons of it around here but it's all the subsonic stuff. The normal ammo is still as hard to find as ever.

Best you're gonna get is the Kel Tec PMR, but it's a 22mag, so you might as well shoot 5.7 as far as cost/availability goes. It's more rare than 22LR these days. I found some at Cabelas, and was halfway to the register with it when I remembered I don't have a 22mag...

Other option is to take up reloading. I'm working up a 55gr plated load right now that should cost me pretty much nothing to shoot, until I crack all my brass. I think I got 1000 bullets for under a hundred bucks, so 10c a bullet, 10c a powder, 4c a primer give or take, I'm shooting for a quarter. That's still alot...

Maybe I gotta work up a cast load.

I wouldn't shoot a cast load through a fiveseven, but that is just me. The idea of having to clean lead sludge from the barrel doesn't excite me.

They'd be gas checked more than likely, only dies out there are, so there wouldn't be a speck of lead in there. I cast for my 38, and while I understand that's a different animal, the lube I use leaves the barrel extremely shiny after a shooting session. I located some guys on another forum running cast boolits through an AR with gas checks near 3000fps an not only is the barrel still clean, but the gas system is as well.
