Cabela's 5.57x28 Ammo Order

Post by jimf5 » 07 Nov 2012, 15:54

Hi All:
I ordered 250 Rnds of American Eagle on the 23rd of Oct. and it stated it was back ordered and would be in two weeks from then. I called today to get a date on it's arrival and was told it would be July 2013.
I was speechless for a second but asked if it took that long would it be the same $19.99 price per box and free shipping? She said yes, so as long as they don't charge my credit card I might get the deal of the year.

Stopped by the Cabela's in Mitchell, SD yesterday just to see. Asked a sales guy about 5.7x28 and he couldn't find any in the ammo section. He checked their on-line database, and told me that they have over 500 boxes at the distribution facility in Sidney, NE. I asked him what kind, SS195, SS197, AE etc... He was clueless, but the picture showed SS197.

I ordered 12 boxes of the new Federal stuff when it was on sale at Brownell's. It was not in stock (of course) so they backordered it for me. Who knows how long it will take, but at least I am "in line" to get some. With their black Friday deal, it was only about $18 per box. Not bad if I actually get it.

I ordered a 1000 rounds of AE from Cabelas, @ $19.99 the other day + free shipping. The backorder time was 2-3 weeks. Yesterday it was 0-1 week. So who knows. If it ships by Christmas I will order another 1000 rounds.

Hi All:
I am the OP on this thread and recieved an E-Mail this morning saying the ammo did not come in on the date listed (12-12-2012), and if I did not reply in 10 days the order would be canceld. I replied I did not want to cancel and send it when it comes in. I have nothing to lose. We will see.

Just spoke with Cabela - said ammo "sold out for the season," not back-orderable, not coming anytime soon as far as the customer rep could tell. Said she had none of the things in the system that can normally at least hint at a date of arrival....sucks.

I called about the same ammo yesterday and she told me January 12th as possible arrival date. At least they still had my backorder in the system.

I'm seeing some of the SS197SR with the "Lead Free Primer" sticker on it on GB, for high prices. Has that been available anywhere other than Cabela's? It looks like some of the lucky few that got their orders filled are just flipping it. Isn't anybody still shooting? (rhetorical question)

Hi All:
Rather than start a new TOPIC I will add this to the one I already started. I will be attending the SHOT SHOW tomorrow here in Las Vegas and will go to the FN booth and see if I can get any info on the ammo and pistol availability situation. I know I will be talking to sales people but will report on any info I can get.

From what I have seen, it's all of the 12 headstamped ammo. I still shoot and won't even consider selling any of the ammo that I do have. I'm also on many vendors notify me lists, so I can have more.

Tried Cabela's again today - sold out for the season they said, same as in December when I tried. Did however manage to get on back order with Bass ProShops...she said she wasn't sure how much they had coming in and if it would cover all the back orders, but the system let her add my order (which was good) and that it looked like ammo was due to arrive at the end of the month. They don't charge you until your stuff arrives, so I had them out me down for 10 boxes. Price was list at $26.99.

ya GB is a joke and people are just trying to make a buck. If this is your buisness then sure make a buck if not shoot the ammo or take up golf. I understand the free market and customers determine the price but I still think it is chickin sh!!t and stupid greed.
let me get some ammo I will be at the range same day.lol

Will keep an eye on Cabela's web site then. As, of now it's not even listed with AE's item number.

I woke up to a email that says my December 2 order or 4 boxes of AE has shipped. UPS gives me a delivery of 1/29.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I kinda had the feeling I wasn't ever going to see it.

Hi All:
As the OP ( I started this mess) I finally got to shoot the AE ammo I waited for (3 Months) this morning and after two wasted rounds to sight it in I shot three rounds straight thru a frozen gallon jug. The other 15 rounds (FN blue tip) destroyed the jug and the wood stand it was on. I am glad I waited for the ammo and if three bad guy's break in and are in line I think one round will take care of all of them.

P.S. I shot 3 rounds of .45 at the second jug and 2 went thru and one was intact. So much for shooting re-loads
These were both at 25 feet.

I can't find any link to 5.7 x28mm ammo on Cabela's site. Did you order at one of their stores, or by phone? I'm just looking to get into somebody's backorder list. I have new gun and three boxes of factory ammo; just waiting for reloading components or any whiff of factory ammo anywhere.

This was for the backorder from back in nov & december. the backorders are finally being filled. they have pulled the item from their website so that the list of backorders does not contiue to grow. once they are fully caught up im sure they will relist it. with the amount of ammo being pushed out of factories they will get caught up soon and hopefully continue high production for a while to bring prices back down.

I know a number of other manufactures and sellers are the same as cabelas having removed the item from accepting backorders. look on gun-deals.com/ammo for 5.7 and see if there might be a website accepting backorders on there.

Red Dog, read back through this thread & you'll see where some people have had to type in an item number in order to get it to come up. IIRC, the post even gives the item number to use.

The AE item number will only pull up what's in stock ( 10 mm and 45acp the last I checked ). The FN number has been removed from the catalog.

Thanks for pointing me to the fivesevenammo website. I was able to backorder some HP ammo. It's a jungle out there!

Thanks for the Cabela's link. I'll call C/S and see if they'll take an order.

I bought a CMMG mag extension from them that has a spring that is to wide.
my responce from them was a simple "we dont have call them"
never again will I buy a thing from them even at the over inflated price they sold to me in the first place

Did you resolve the spring problem? Do you still need one?

CMMG was quick to respond to my emails.
come to find out that the extension kit only works on old style mags. I didnt know that and it is not on the website I bought from(57ammo) the old spring is wider than factory and gets caught on the lil lip inside the mag. I have 3 more mags to check but I think I have all new style if so I will be offering this kit to anyone that wants it prob $20 shipped

Received my 500 rounds today. Now I can go shoot the PS90 without expending the SS198 and Elite ammo. Still not exactly a plinker though...
