Things were changing so much & so often that keeping this thread up to date was a full time job. No one has that much time to devote to chasing down ammo so that's why it hasn't been updated in about a year. :?:

Someone made a new thread & it seems to be the most current

I use http://ammoseek.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to find in stock ammo and pricing. This doesn't include every supplier but it is a convenient place to start. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot available right now. I look forward to the day when it fills the screen like it used to.

Yeah gunbroker has some ammo up. Looks like people are getting 0.70 cents and up for standard ammo.

Hopefully federal american eagle kicks there 5.7 manufacturing into over drive. I have quite a bit of it on back order. Some sites are advertising under 20 bucks a box. It would be nice to see 5.7 ammo back at that price!

Well just seeing if anyone had a lead on some ammo. Looks like it is in short supply!

Thanks for the tip! :)
I just placed an order with them (gtdist.com) for SS197. $19.99 is the best price that I've seen in a while. It's only $5.00 shipping for orders up to 20 pounds in weight. You must be a law enforcement officer, licensed security officer, member of the US military, or purchasing agent for a law enforcement or security agency to purchase ammo from them.

Great tip! Got my order in for 40 boxes. I might buy another 40 at that price. Lets see if they really have it in stock.

I have placed backlog orders with a couple other websites. Still waiting on the rounds to show up.

OK update about that ammo.

According to the very nice people at GT Distributors. 5.7 ammo is not in stock. BUT they expect a very large shipment in December....

So you can back order it, or just wait till December and get your self a Christmas Present!

If anyone does find any web sites that are not "sold out" please update. Thank you!

OK so looks like all it took was a couple of months. If you look on line a lot of places have 5.7 ammo now!

American Eagle seems to be the cheapest at under 20 bucks a box!

You better believe that I will be stocking up!!!

November is right around the corner! We all know what that means for ammo prices!

Guys and Gals just wanted to post this because its current. As of 8:52am 10/6/12 ammunition depot is showing stock on ss198lf green tip 50 rounds for $35.97/box in stock. Come to find out that they are literally 4 miles from house in South Florida. I haven't purchased my FN yet but I have been reading the forums and it seems the smart thing to do is stock up on ammo now! If anyone can respond as to whether that is a solid round for the gun or should I just shut up and buy it because its hard to find ANY rounds?

Yes the green tip FN ammo is a good round! Although at 36 bucks a box that is a little bit high!!!

Check out this link! Its 20 bucks a box!
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Federal- ... l+Products" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have shot these American Eagle rounds and they are very good. Have not had any problems with them. And at 16 bucks less a box you can get a lot more for your buck!

Good luck and happy shooting!!!

The SS198 may be a superior round with respect to terminal ballistics over the FAE TMJ round, and hence the price difference.

One (FAE) is geared toward "plinking" and the other for carry/self defense.

rfd298 and all,

Our local store had several cases of SS195LF in stock. I picked up some, may go back and get more. Price was $27.95 per box.

LGS here had ss195 for like 32 a box. Almost bought it because it is the first 5.7 ammo I have seen since October or so. I didn't because I just cannot bring my self to pay that much for watered down blue box ss195 when last time i bought ss195 it was white box for 18 dollars or so... the good ole days....

One of my local gun stores told me they got around 400 boxes in last week. Well, there was none on the shelf yesterday. The guy said there are a couple of people who will buy everything they have. That's $8800 before tax and 20,000 rounds. Who the expletive in my area even has all these 5.7 weapons!?

That's still low, compared to everyone else. On Gunbroker, the prices are now over $1 a round.

New ammo stock is hitting right now and in January. I can't blame them for wanting to stock up. You and I were born in the wrong decade. If we had $ saved up by now from careers we could have stocked up. Well, at least you have carbin... "high capacity assault weapon", haha. That makes one of us. :thumb:

That is the reason my local store limits purchases to 1 box per day (when they can get the ammo).

Rules state you are not to post outside links to gunbroker.

You obviously just came back here to advertise.

I went on gunbroker yesterday and to my amazement I could find a large quantity of 5.7 x 28 mm ammunition...problem is that it has now reached over $1.00 a round... Oh lord I can not wait for the prices to go back down.

Although this does prove a point. Ammo has been out there, people stocked up, waiting for the second term, and are now making quite a little profit on it!

Oh well, that is capitalism for you!

I will wait for the prices to drop back to a reasonable rate before ordering more.

Keep calm, and enjoy your shooting.

There are many sites that overprice firearm items.

There is no point in getting mad... we all know and share your grief.

There are forums, that literally have 10 posts per day about someone that is raging at ammunition prices.

Do we really need a new thread every time someone finds a dealer/auction selling at gawd-awful prices?

We're shooters, we know there is an ammo shortage and we know some people are trying to take major advantage of it. Thanks for the warning about another vendor marking up their ammo but really, we've seen worse this year.

I, for one, appreciate posts of dealers/sellers "selling at gawd-awful prices". Those dealers/sellers go on my "Do Not Buy From EVER" list.

I was actually looking at starting to make ammunition as a side business. Problem is you can't even get the components. Looked into used brass from the military, but by the time the auction was over, it worked out to 5 cents a casing. Not only that, you have to wait at least 60 days after you pay in full while they decide if you are worthy to buy the fired brass.

Anyone else thinking about this? Any ideas? I was hoping to set up a small factory and employ a few folks in town.

Elite Ammunition (forum sponsor) is already hitting that road block, have been since last November.

Unless you have your own source for components, getting into the ammo business now is going to be extremely difficult.

You'll need your FFL to produce ammunition. So make certain if you go that route you look into the business legality side of things. Insurance, etc.

Components are out there, but you're competing for a finite quantity with an unknown number of opponents. :)

Obviously there are legalities, a class 6 ffl, insurance, fire codes, etc. Got those addressed and an attorney.

I believe you are right, obtaining sources of components is the key. I guess the days of ordering 100K 9mm cases and getting them the next week are over. The other issue I am running into is that even though components are more expensive, everyone expects to pay 25 cents a round for 9mm.

I put up some spare ammunition (my personal stockpile) in a rare caliber on another site at the going rate (10% more than I paid for it) and got nothing but flak and postings of websites that advertised the same thing a little cheaper (but out of stock of course). Tough crowd.

Question is, some of these plants are operating at full capacity, I wonder if subcontracting for them might be an option? In six months I could be making about 500K rounds a month if I had the components. 3K an hour per machine. I have a building and room for at least 6, plus there are a lot of unemployed machinists around here.

People selling things for the "going rate" are receiving flak on this board too despite warnings against ad stomping (you know who you are). We try to keep it out of the ads but those people are keeping us on our toes.

Subcontracting for the ridiculously huge gov contracts might be your best option.

My goal was to make low cost target ammo. Something folks could afford to shoot.

In fact, Starline's not even taking backorders on common calibers like 9mm and 45 ACP because the demand is so high.

So I've discovered, and I am not interested in going to China. Guess I'll keep my day job.

I managed to snag a couple of boxes of SS197's for $30/box....they sold out quickly. I have another shop that's has them for $40/box and they're not selling out.

The American Eagle FMJs are readily available at several of my local shops for $30/box.

I went to a gun show and someone had several boxes of SS195LFs...they were wanting $45/box. One clown had two boxes of SS198LF's and wanted $175/box....

Say what you want but it looks like demand is starting to soften up a bit.

My LGS has several boxes of 5.7 at $24 per box, limit 2 boxes per day. I have about 1500 rounds now. Don't really want to give away my honey hole, but do want to pass on that there is hope and supplies may be starting to return. They have been limiting boxes of ammo to spread the ammo to everyone, today they were selling a case of 1000 federal .556 for $479. The ammo supplies may be returning. When I see bricks of .22 I will know the ammo drought has ended.

Hey Jim300, What's the name of your LGS? Do they still have stock? Do they ship?

Rifle gear has FN SS197 in stock now. But at $1.00 a round for a 500 round lot.
