10/22 .22lr zeroing it in.

as you guys know the .22lr has some "rainbow" or parabola type ballistics. Not flat at all.

What do you recommend zeroing a 10/22 ruger at? I usually do 25 yards.
But noticed a 25 yard zero with hit extremely high at 50,

50. Get a cheap scope with hash marks for every mil or 1/2 mil to adjust for closer (25m) or farther (100m)

I really like the Mueller APV, the BSA Sweet 22 isn't bad, but not as nice as the Mueller.

I like the bsa, for the price.
they are heavy and are horrible if used at dusk or dawn, but they get the job done!!!!

That being said... I zero in at 55 yards with my 10/22. This way my bases are pretty much covered if I just want to point and shoot out a little past 80 yards or close in at around 25 yards.

Yeah but will a 55 yard zero still work for what I consider "close in" at about 3-10 yards? I honestly dont see myself using any 22lr past 70 yards with an average range being 10-30 yards.

It depends on what you're shooting at.

I regularly take these little vermin at ranges from 3 yards out to about 60 yards with a 10/22 and CB shorts or Aguila Colibris. Holdover/holdunder can be essential to real hits.



Rabbits and hares are a bit simpler to target.

I keep mine at 50 yds with C-More that came with the PS90. It's works great from 20-70yds.

WOW! You get within 3 yards of that thing? Scary stuff right there. Make sure you kill it with the first shot. Nothing is worse than a pissed off ground squirrel coming after you. Those things are vicious! Be careful out there. We don't want you losing a limb... or worse. I hear they like nuts. :p

Seriously though, that is a good question. Ballistics info on 22LR is hard to find. I tend to agree with about 50 yards from personal experience, but I wish I had velocity, projectile weight, and ballistic coefficient to play with.

The little vermin are mostly hiding in their holes now, but in season they can be pretty bold and come into very close proximity of their own accord. At that range, point of impact is well below point of aim. An inch may as well be a mile on these pests. On the plus side a primer only 20gr .22 bullet will usually punch all the way through a broadside shot and (to scale) is like a human getting hit with by a round from a 2" diameter cannon.
